 Quotes We Love

"My father told me that libraries are the best and most underused resources in our country. I'd sometimes skip school and spend the whole day at the library." ~Alison McLellan

"As I wandered the aisles of our town library, my 'adult' library card in my hand for the first time, I felt like I was clutching the precious invitation to every party, every club, every conversation I'd ever wanted to join." ~Renee White

"Libraries have been my home away from home since I was a little girl joining in my local summer reading club. I probably visit my library once a week and when I'm traveling, whether it's here in the U.S. or abroad, I always make a point to stop in the local library and take it all in." ~Cory Martin

Happy New Year!

With the new year comes new electronic resources for our patrons.  The Westchester Library System has made several changes to our database offerings, and will be unsubscribing from One Click Digital, Flipster, Rocket Languages, and Instantflix.  As replacements we now have access to Hoopla, Mango Languages, and PressReader.  These changes will take place on January 1st, 2017.  To learn more about the new services please come in to the Library and speak to any of our wonderful librarians.

Thinking about a healthier lifestyle in 2017? Forget about all those crazy diets and fitness fads. Join the Somers Library Foundation and experience a measurable change in your health. Think we are kidding?

The Harvard School of Public Health interviewed over 7,000 people and learned that volunteers make smarter decisions about their health:  People who volunteer, live longer, healthier lives. Some public health experts believe that the time has come for doctors to recommend it alongside diet and exercise. When you become a Library Foundation volunteer, you can do good and get well at the same time. Awesome!

You owe it to yourself to learn more about becoming a Foundation volunteer. Send us an email ( VolunteerSLF@wlsmail.org ) and let us know something about yourself and your interests. We'd love to make your acquaintance.

Remember, purpose in life helps drives good health. You'll not only have fun, but you'll discover that giving your time to a cause you care about can also make you healthier.
Our programs are funded by the Friends of the Somers Library, through your donations.  Thank you for your continued support!

Friends Make All the Difference!  We need your support.

The Friends support the library by funding all programs for adults, teens and children.  These are valuable and important to the community.  We work with the staff to identify areas where help is needed, to enhance the library's service as a cultural and informational center for our town.

The Friends raise funds primarily by our annual appeal donation drive.  We also have book sales, monthly book basket raffles, participate in Amazon Smile, and receive matching grants.

The Friends have also provided funding for the new circulation desk, additional seating for the program room and other furniture, activity kits to borrow, and much more!

Did you know that the Friends were formed in 1979, in part to help build our current library?  We are a nonprofit organization.   We facilitate donations from local businesses to provide the fresh flowers at the circulation desk.  Volunteers assist at many events.  The monthly raffle of a basket of books is created by a volunteer and funds library programs.  Special donations can be made in memory or honor of an individual.
