January 3, 2017

President's Corner

Dear Kiwanis Club of Omaha:
Happy New Year to you and your families! I hope everyone enjoyed extra time with family and friends over the holidays. While we all have our own personal and professional goals for 2017, the new year brings an amazing set of opportunities for our Kiwanis club. We recently started on our journey toward 100 members by our 100th anniversary in January 2019. Since October, we have seen an increase in general attendance, more guests at meetings, and we welcomed two new members. Thank you to everyone who has increased their participation and invited guests to our meetings!
JANUARY 27th MEETING - If you have any guests or potential members on the fence, our meeting on January 27 th is the one to bring them to. That day, we will not have a traditional speaker. Instead, all committee chairs will report to the club with a brief background on what their committee does, what their plans are for 2017, and how the rest of the club can help them accomplish their mission. This is a great time for us as members to find additional ways to make an impact or for guests to learn where they might find meaning and purpose in our Kiwanis club.
We have many exciting programs coming up, an early gala to look forward to, CWS, our annual golf tournament, monthly service projects, and many other social or K2B opportunities on the horizon. Let's keep up the great work and continue to share the Kiwanis spirit with others as we improve the world one child and one community at a time!

This Week's Program
"Senator Heath Mello "

Our speaker this week is District 5 State Representative, Heath Mello. Rep. Mello announced in August that he will challenge incumbent Mayor Jean Stothert in the upcoming spring election.

Please bring a guest to our first meeting of 2017!

Service Project at Lydia House

We will need 10-15 volunteers for another game night at the Lydia House from 5:30pm-7:30pm on January 18
th.
This offers a break for the mothers on a week night and adds additional help for the support staff at the Lydia House who cannot give one-on-one attention to most of the children. We will have cards, board games, toss-across, and a few other games available. We encourage members to bring their children as well for an even greater service learning experience.
