Manitowoc County Kennel Club (MCKC) will begin a new class session on January 17 with registration in person from 6:00-6:30 p.m. and orientation 6:30-7:15 p.m. at the Kennel Club facility on Albert Drive. City of Two Rivers: The Two Rivers Octagon Club will present Mitten Magic on Saturday, January 28, from 9:30-11:00 a.m. at the J. E. Hamilton Community House in the Fire Place Lobby. Children will have the opportunity to make bird feeders from pine cones, decorate a mitten cookie and hear the story "The Mitten" by Jan Brett. Point Beach State Forest invites you to join our Candlelight Ski/Hike on January 28 starting at 5:00 p.m.! Come on out to Point Beach State Forest and enjoy a unique evening experience! Depending on the weather, there will be candlelit trails for either skiing or hiking. Warm yourself up in the lodge with food, drinks, and live music! City of Manitowoc:  Currently soliciting proposals to purchase a portion of City-owned land located at Fleetwood Drive and Pleasant Street on the City's northwest side until 4:00 p.m. January 27. Rahr-West Art Museum: The Rahr-West Art Museum presents "Poetry in Color: The Art of Bert Zylstra" in the museum's Lounge Gallery, January 17- February 19. The exhibition spans the career of Dutch-born artist Ellen-Bert Zylstra and is complemented by poetry written by Katheryn Gahl. Zylstra immigrated to the United States from Holland in 1962 and became an American citizen. His works were exhibited in New York, Wisconsin, Holland and in many private collections. An opening celebration will be held on Sunday, January 15, at 1 p.m. It is free and open to the public and will include complimentary light refreshments. Service League of Manitowoc County: Do you know a high school senior? If so, encourage him/her to apply for the Service League scholarship! A minimum of four scholarships ranging from $250 to $1,000 will be awarded. Applicant must be a high school senior, a resident of Manitowoc County and have a 2.3 GPA or better. Applications must be postmarked no later than March 4, 2017. All applications that are postmarked after the announced deadline will not be considered. Leede Research Group has announced the completion of the pilot program on the Get Cheddah consumer app. The pilot was completed through Progress Lakeshore in cooperation with The Chamber of Manitowoc County and a dozen local merchant partners. Cheddah is a consumer app designed to offer discounts at local businesses in exchange for completing five questions. Leede was testing the app as part of an overall Community Engagement Platform in hopes of bringing it to the market and community in 2017. It is designed to bring key groups in the community together in an effort to improve communications and effectiveness. Read the full press release here.
