The Reformation of Everything

Reformation Festival Eucharist - Sunday, October 29 at 10:00 a.m. in the Center for Faith and Life, join local ELCA congregations as we celebrate the 500th anniversary of the Reformation. Music by Norsemen, Aurora, Cantorei with Mass Choir (9th grade - adults) and Children's Choir (K-8) directed by Jennaya Robison. Congregation choir members are invited to join the choir rehearsals on Saturday, October 28, CFL Main Hall, mass choir at 10:00 a.m., children's choir at 11:00 a.m. All are welcome.
 
For Freedom Christ Has Set Us Free: Reformation Festival Hymn Sing with Marty Haugen Sunday, October 29, 2017 at 4:00 p.m. in the Center for Faith and Life. Luther alumnus and renowned composer of church music, Marty Haugen '73, will lead a hymn sing that celebrates the role of music, hymns, and singing in the shared work of spiritual formation, proclaiming the Gospel, and building community across generations, cultures, and traditions. All are welcome.
 
Reformation Commemoration Symposium: On Tuesday, October 31, Luther College will host a symposium honoring the 500th anniversary of the Reformation.  Entitled "The Reformation of Everything, 1517-2017," the event will begin at 9:00 a.m. in the Center for Faith and Life with a plenary address by Professor Brad Gregory of Notre Dame. The remainder of the day will consist of presentations and performances by members of the Luther College community. Click here for further information and a full program.   
 
Reformation Commemoration Concert: Tuesday, October 31 at 7:30 p.m. in the Center for Faith and Life. The Luther College Music Department will present the Reformation Cantata, a work composed in honor of the Reformation Commemoration by four Luther College alumni and four current students. The program will also include a new work for concert band, jointly commissioned by a consortium of Lutheran colleges. Ensembles involved include the Concert Band, Collegiate Chorale, and Cathedral Choir.  More information

Your Best Defense Against the Flu!  Flu Clinic in the Dahl Centennial Union Wednesday, October 25 from 9:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m.
Four Luther College alumnae will speak on their professional careers and personal experiences as females in the workforce during a panel at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, October 26, in the Center for Faith and Life Recital Hall. A reception will follow the panel in the Center for Faith and Life Qualley Lounge. 
 
The Luther College String Trio, in collaboration with Heather Armstrong, oboe, will present a recital at 7:30 p.m., Wednesday, October 25, in the Noble Recital Hall in the Jenson-Noble Hall of Music. The trio is comprised of Luther faculty members Igor Kalnin, violin; Spencer Martin, viola; and Philip Borter, cello.   
 
Religion Forum is Wednesday, November 1 at 7 p.m. in Center for Faith and Life, Recital Hall: Women in Interfaith Activism: A Conversation with Regina Mustafa.
Todd Green will talk with Mustafa about her background, participation in interfaith work, involvement in local politics and experience running as a Muslim woman for Congress. She is from Rochester, MN and founded the non-profit organization, Community Interfaith Dialogue on Islam (CIDI). Q&A to follow.   
 
Luther has been invited to participate in the summer 2018 Davis Projects for Peace. Luther students interested in designing and implementing their own grassroots projects for peace are encouraged to submit proposals of 3 pages or less by January 15, 2018. If selected, students receive $10,000 to implement projects somewhere in the world during summer 2018. For details and application information, contact Jon Lund.
 
Counseling Services will be offering a Grief & Loss Support group for students starting November 7 at 10:00 am Preus Library, Hovde Room, meeting each Tuesday until December 5. The group is intended for students seeking peer support due to the death of a loved one. The group will be topic based, with topics introduced and discussed each week. Please note: The group is not intended as a therapy group. If you are in need or are interested in accessing counseling support, please contact Counseling Service or Campus Ministries.  
 
Luther Prescribed Burn Crew - if interested in volunteering you will need to attend a training session. You will learn about why and how we use fire in our woodlands and prairies and about fire safety and responsibilities while on a burn.  Prescribed Burn Training is Wednesday, October 25, 6:30-7:30 p.m. in Valders 362. *If you attended our burn training last spring, you do not need to re-fresh your training this fall.  Please contact Professor Molly McNicoll if you have questions.
 
The Diversity Center will have a Decorah Walmart shopping shuttle running from 2:00-5:00 pm on Saturday, October 28.  This is open to all students and there is no charge, but reservations are requested, please register here .  Students should meet in front of the Union.

Ryan Sallans Bookgroup -- On November 8 at 6 p.m. in Valders 206, Ryan Sallans, Transgender author, speaker, and advocate, will give a public lecture on his personal journey and gender transition. Prepare for his visit by joining a book group to read his memoir, Second Son: Transitioning to Toward my Destiny, Love, and Life, and then have an opportunity to share a meal and conversation with the author during his visit.
