NEWTOWN SQUARE, Pa.
--- The Wildfire in the Northeast Workshop, designed to teach and to answer how-to queries, attracted community leaders, emergency responders, homeowners, and wildfire professionals from the USDA Forest Service, northeastern United States, and eastern Canada, to Mystic, CT, in December.
Local, State and Province, and national leaders, and wildfire professionals shared tried-and-true approaches to prevent and overcome challenges to prevention and mitigation, and what they might expect in the future. Research professionals addressed climate and fire regimes, historical wildfires, and effective engagement of the public. State and local leaders shared the importance of improving situational awareness in communities, engaging youth, and using partnerships to seek shared solutions to mitigation issues. Private and government organization vendors mingled with and engaged workshop goers.
Attendees received the Wildfire in the Northeast pocket guidebook and its electronic application, which will serve as a handy resource for prevention and mitigation information. The workshop was funded by the USDA Forest Service, and hosted by the Prevention Committees from the Northeastern and Mid-Atlantic Forest Fire Protection Compacts.

Quercus montana) (syn.
