Greetings CIT&CIP Community!  January 2017 
 2016 has come and gone and there are many successes to celebrate. It was a year of expansion and development for our CIT&CIP Wisconsin teams who trained 627 officers in CIT and 693 professionals in CIP. Coming into the new year we have 16 local training teams who have high hopes for continued growth and outreach. I am amazed by the progression and dedication of our Wisconsin crisis intervention community.

Highlight: CIT Coordinator Certification Course in Wisconsin

On November 11th, 2016, fifty-six Wisconsin CIT&CIP Facilitator's and Trainer's  completed the CIT Coordinator Certification Course in Madison, WI. Part icipants came together from from seventeen different Wisconsin counties to strengthen their role as a CIT Coordinator focusing on best practices, partnerships and sustainability. Instructors leading the course were comprised of current and past board members of CIT International, who have helped expand and develop CIT 
worldwide.  This one day (8 hour) course certified our CIT&CIP Wisconsin partners through CIT International and was funded by the NAMI Wisconsin CIT/CIP expansion grant.

Bureau of Justice Assistance Releases Police-Mental Health 
Collaboration Programs and Toolkit

Strengthen your local CIT&CIP Wisconsin training program by utilizing the BJA's recent Police-Mental Health Collaboration toolkit. T he PMHC toolkit provides resources to partner with Mental health providers to effectively respond to calls for service, improve communities for people with mental illness and advance the safety of all.

    Welcoming our New CIT&CIP Wisconsin Trainin g T eams

Southwest Region's  CIT&CIP Training team held CIT #1 after months of planning. Their team consists of individuals from Southwest Tech's Public Safety Dept. and Unified Services. The training was Nov 7-10th, 2016 which provided training to 20 officers from 7 different departments, spanning across 3 counties.

Wood County held their first CIT training Dec. 12th-16th, 2016 at Mid-State Technical College in Wisconsin Rapids. Their team consists of dedicated individuals from Wood Co. Human Services, WI Rapids PD, Wood Co. SD, City of Marshfield PD, and NAMI Portage & Wood Co. They successfully trained 25 officers from 7 different departments.

Chris Prochut

Former Bolingbrook Illinois Police Commander, Chris Prochut, is a mental illness awareness advocate and law enforcement suicide prevention trainer. In 2011, he partnered with the Wisconsin Law Enforcement Death Responses (LEDR) Team conducting suicide trainings throughout the state.



Mettie Spiess

Mettie is an award-winning mental health advocate, professional speaker and the Executive Director of Operation Reach Out. She connects with audiences through unmasking her journey with mental illness and by sharing her powerful story of loss, survival, and resilience. 


 

Special Event!
A Mental Health Advocacy Day

Action on the Square is a day to spread awareness about mental health, learn about current legislative issues, and talk to elected officials about issues in the mental health system. This event will take place on and is open to anyone who cares deeply about mental health (no advocacy experiences required).
