We are getting close. As we approach this fourth Sunday of Advent, we lift up love as we light the candles.
What better way to celebrate love than to turn our attention to Mary, the Mother of Jesus.
She helps us mark the last part of our peace journey- as the God Bearer, she enlivens peace as much as any one human being has been able to do. There is a wonderful tribute given to Mary in a book entitled, 'One Incredible Moment' by Max Lucado. Here he imagines Mary speaking to the newly born child in her lap:
"Such tiny feet cupped in the palm of my hands.
Do you feel the cold sea water upon which you will walk?
Do you wrench at the invasion of the nail you will bear?
Do you fear the steep descent of the staircase into Satan's domain?
Rest tiny feet. Rest today so that tomorrow you may walk with power.
Rest- for millions in many ages will walk in your footsteps.
Rest, holy heart for you contain the universe.
How many times will we break you? How many times will we ask you to bear:
Yet- in all that violence, you will find rest. Your hands will be freed, you eyes see justice, your lips smile, and your feet will carry you home- into the embrace of your Father, and ours.
It is wonderful that in this writing we can see the whole picture of Jesus' life and mission.
Always, in the church story we look ahead. In these words, the words of nativity, we catch a glimpse of the Lenten journey. God is with us- thanks be to God- for his love and your faithful service in His Name this Holy Season. Join us this advent 4 Sunday as we travel with Mary to the stable.
In faith, Rev Jackie.
