The Humboldt-Del Norte Film Commission is recognized by the County of Humboldt, County of Del Norte, and the California Film Commission as the official advocate for filming in Humboldt and Del Norte, California. We are also a member of the organization FLICS (Film Liaisons in California Statewide). The Film Commissioner, Cassandra Hesseltine, currently serves as the President of FLICS.

Cassandra Hesseltine became the region's Film Commissioner in fall of 2010. Prior to taking on the role of Film Commissioner, Cassandra worked in film and theater.

Cutting a scenic swath from the mountains of southern Oregon into California, the powerful Klamath River, the second largest in California, has been the backdrop for films for over eighty years. From the original Last of the Mohicans (1936) to Jim Jarmusch's Dead Man (1995), starring Johnny Depp, and most recently for the Nature Conservancy, the Klamath provides an iconic view of the Pacific Northwest. The Klamath river is surrounded by National and State parks, containing forests of redwood and fir, and empties into the Pacific Ocean through a wide, scenic mouth. The Klamath basin, inhabited by the Yurok tribe for countless generations, has a rich cultural and historic heritage.
