January 2017

Santa Fe TTN is organized and led entirely by volunteers.

Co-Coordinators' Corner
Rachel Greenstein & Sue Burgess
It was an outstanding year for me, jumping into TTN with both feet, getting to know members better, especially in my peer group, experimenting with programs and finding out what worked.(Sue) We also discovered what was possible when a brand new member volunteered to coordinate a day trip and a member who is a docent led two groups from our Chapter on tours of the Mabel Dodge Luhan exhibit at the Harwood Museum in Taos. The Opera House tour and La Fonda Hotel tour were also delightful. And, in spite of the cold, another group truly appreciated the Mesa Prieta petroglyphs.

TTN is an all-volunteer organization and we thank the many members who did everything from suggesting the activity or presentation, bringing snacks the night of and sometimes being the presentation itself. Together, we made the 2016 programs and events happen.

Many, many thanks to Portia Blackman for managing logistics for the chapter for the last three years, finding locations for our annual picnics and assuring that the monthly meetings ran well. You may not know Portia or what she does for our chapter and that's because she has done this job so well.

Thanks, too, to Linda McEnroe, long-time member of the Social Committee, who did an excellent job as Social Coordinator this year. Thanks to Linda, most months had two coffees, a happy hour and at least one fun/engaging activity on our chapter calendar.

Thank you to Judy Donohue for her behind-the-scenes membership contributions, to Jean Palmer for the many ways she goes above and beyond, to the membership committee members for making us all feel welcome, to our speakers, our Day Trip organizers Brigid Brahe and Karen Lievense, and to all our members for participating.

We offer appreciation to the balance of our Steering Committee members who will be helping us move forward into 2017: Ginnie Asman, Communications Coordinator; Kay Henriksen, Treasurer; Jean Palmer, Liaison to National; and Rachel Greenstein, Co-Coordinator. Sue Burgess is moving to Programs and she is looking for input for 2017,  [email protected].

We're pleased to announce Robin Sarkissian
is taking her place as Co-Coordinator. Robin is transitioning from being a stay-at-home mom to going to graduate school in the pursuit of a new career. One of her goals is to broaden the age range of the membership. Robin's email is [email protected].

We are looking for members to coordinate Social, Logistics and Membership.
Please contact Rachel Greenstein
[email protected]
or Sue Burgess [email protected] if you're interested.

I nterested in being in a
Transition Peer Group ?  Want more information?

Do you want to feel more connected?  Have you wanted to have closer and deeper friendships with women at this stage in your life? Consider joining a Transition Peer Group.

There will be an information/orientation session on Thursday, January 19, 2017 from 6-8 PM at Montezuma Lodge to find out more about what a Transition Peer Group is.  This informational meeting is required in order to participate in a Transition Peer Group.  You will be introduced to the guidelines and new groups will be formed that evening if you decide to be in one.  Please bring your calendars in order to schedule your group's initial meeting.

Please contact [email protected] by January 16 to let her know if you will attend. We need to have at least 12 people in attendance that evening to hold the session. By coming to learn more, you are not obligated to sign up to be in a group.

History Experienced at La Fonda Hotel!

A large and enthusiastic group of TTN members and guests were treated to tour led by docent/guide Lynn Clark on December 3rd. Lynn first gave us a talk on the history of the La Fonda Hotel which sits on a site where there has been an inn or hotel since 1607! She then guided us through the lobby and hotel corridors where we viewed historical art such as antique headboards as well as paintings from the Fred Harvey era. We were able to visit an unoccupied room which has been restored, boasting many historical elements. We also explored state rooms: one with an intriguing period map and another with many decorative paintings from the Mimbres culture. The tour concluded with a visit to the bell tower which offers terrific views of Santa Fe. Look for a TTN "happy hour" event there when warm weather returns!
