CHAMBER RECEIVES GOVERNOR'S EXPORT AWARD 

Lt. Governor Evelyn Sanguinetti and the Illinois Department of Commerce (DCEO) announced the recipients of the 2016 Governor's Export Awards at an awards ceremony on December 6. The Governor's Export Awards are Illinois' highest recognition of export achievement, honoring Illinois companies that have achieved excellence in exporting, as well as organizations that provide export assistance.

CHAMBER WATERWAY EFFORTS SHOW RESULTS 

On December 14, the Illinois Department of Natural Resources sent a letter to the federal government laying out the intent of the state to be a non-federal sponsor for a project that could have significant repercussions in Illinois-with conditions. Over the last several years, Brandon Road Lock & Dam near Joliet, IL, has become a focal point in the war against aquatic invasive specifies such as Asian carp. The Infrastructure Council of the Illinois Chamber of Commerce has been one of the leading business organizations fighting to ensure that our waterways remain open to commercial navigation and do not fall victim to physical separation. CHAMBER CO-HOSTS P3 BOOTCAMP ON DEC. 13-14

Public-private partnerships (P3s) have been in the news a lot lately as President-elect Trump has trumpeted his support for a massive infrastructure plan for the U.S. Much of his plan involves the use of P3s to better leverage private sector know-how and public sector dollars. The Illinois Chamber of Commerce supports P3s in instances where it makes sense but we understand that there is still a lot that people do not know about P3s.  Read more...  
JOB HONOR AWARDS  

The Illinois Chamber is proud to co-host the first Inaugural Job Honor Awards at the 3rd Annual New Laws Forum. The awards were distributed to the winners by the founder and director, Kyle Horn. This award is currently only presented in the states of Iowa, Minnesota, Wisconsin and now Illinois. The organization began its journey in 2015 with hope of expanding across the nation to rekindle the work ethic in honoring a new kind of hero. The Job Honor Award celebrates people who overcome barriers to employment and the employers who hire them.    Read more... 
NEW LAWS EFFECTIVE JANUARY 1 , 2017

On January 1, 2017, 192 new laws will officially go into effect in Illinois.  While the Illinois Chamber of Commerce was successful in our efforts in 2016 to minimize legislation that was opposed by the Chamber, several pieces of legislation that pertain to the business community will go into effect on Jan. 1.

We would like to welcome back Nathan Hoffman as the new Director of Advocacy. Our then director, Tyler Diers, will be assuming the position as our new Director of Legislative Relations. Congratulations to Nathan and Tyler.


Aaron Winters joins the Chamber as Executive Director Healthcare Council. He previously served as Governor Bruce Rauner's deputy chief of staff for policy and acted as the Governor's primary policy adviser and ran the administration's legislative review process, making more than 400 bill action recommendations. Aaron also previously served as a senior adviser to U.S. Senator Mark Kirk in Washington, DC. Welcome Aaron.
