Varying Problem Structures

The OGAP framework has a wealth of information on it. One aspect - the structures of problems - is a constant reminder about how important it is to vary structures in questions we ask during instruction as well as when using questions for formative assessment purposes. Research indicates that problem context and structures strongly influence student performance and that students will continue to use immature strategies if these structures are not varied

Take a minute - look at the front page of the OGAP Framework and highlight structures that you have used so far this year in both instruction as well as for formative assessment purposes. Decide - Have I varied the structures or am I relying on just a few structures?

Action Item

As you look at your use of OGAP items over time, what patterns stand out? What problem structures and contexts do your students need experience with?  How can you use this information in your planning?
