Campus Ministry Big Brother/Big Sister Event
On Wednesday, senior members of Campus Ministry attended a career in sports seminar at Webster Bank Arena in Bridgeport before meeting second graders from St. Ann's Academy in Bridgeport for a fun big brother and big sister outing watching the Bridgeport Sound Tigers.  
Freshmen Attend Link Crew Sponsored Movie Night
Link Crew sponsored a Freshmen Movie Night on Wednesday, November 2.  Freshmen enjoyed the showing of Ferris Bueller's Day Off in the gym complete with popcorn and candy.  Thank you to everyone who participated and especially for the donations of non-perishable items for our area food pantries.

Upcoming Service Opportunities
  • St. Catherine's Academy is looking for volunteers to help with their after school program.  Students would be asked to commit to at least one day a week from now until May.  St. Catherine's provides a ride there but students would need to be picked up at the school at 4:15 pm.  Please see Miss Medoff if you are interested by Thursday, November 10
  • The Parents' Association is also looking for help for their scrapbooking event on Friday, November 18 and Saturday, November 19.  Please let Miss Medoff know if you would like to assist. 
Key Club Thanksgiving Food Drive
The Key Club is sponsoring their annual Thanksgiving Drive. Please bring FROZEN turkeys, any size, to the main entrance of the school on Friday morning, November 18. We are also collecting non perishable food items for Thanksgiving at the same time. Please be as generous as you can. All of these will be taken to Sr. Theresa and the Sisters of Charity. We are also in need of some drivers that morning. If you are Virtus trained and have a van or SUV and can help us out, please contact Mrs. Miller or Miss Z. Please let us know if you can provide a turkey or the fixings:

Veteran's Day Prayer Service
On Friday, November 11, Notre Dame will conduct our annual Veteran's Day Prayer Service, remembering all those who served in our armed forces. Over the years, we have compiled a listing of graduates who served our country. This year, 
we would like to add to our list the names of any parents who have served in the military . If you have served in the armed forces, please email Chris Cipriano at ccipriano@notredame.org with your name, your child's name, your branch of service and years served so we can add you to our list.

Finally, we will be hosting a reception for veterans following the prayer service this year. All veterans are invites to join us for the service which will be held in the Sacred Heart University Chapel and the reception which will immediately follow in the Notre Dame library. If you plan to attend the service and reception, please RSVP to Theresa Marzik at tmarzik@notredame.org.
Host Family Needed
CIEE is seeking a loving family from the Notre Dame community to host two great students. The girls have been a part of the school since August and their current host mother is no longer able to provide transportation. It would be a dual placement with dual stipends. ND Travel Group to Visit Ireland
The Notre Dame Travel Group will be traveling to Ireland this year from April 7 - 17. Students, teachers, parents, alumni, alumni parents and friends of our school community are invited to participate. The Ireland Heritage Tour is being organized by Mr. Carl Philipp, Assistant Principal, and Dr. Mary Callaghan, Academic Dean. Both have many years of experience in organizing and directing European travel groups. Plans currently include a 9-night, 10-day visit to the Emerald Isle. The approximate cost is $3300.00. The cost includes airport transfers in the US and Europe. In Ireland, the group will travel by deluxe motor coach. Accommodations are in 3-and 4-star hotels in double/triple rooms. Single rooms are available at additional cost. Overnights include Galway, Westport, Dublin, Cork, Dingle, Killarney and the Bunratty/Shannon area. Meals include 9 full Irish or buffet breakfasts at hotels. Dinners are included each night at local restaurants or hotels. Lunches are not included. Comprehensive sightseeing is offered by our coach driver/escort and local guides for city sightseeing & at special attractions. Our visit includes some free-time. Optional tours which often add substantial costs to European trips are not offered. Except for lunches and personal purchases, we have tried to include all expenses in the cost of the trip. Click here for more information. 
Appalachia 2017 Applications Due By November 18
Sophomores, juniors and seniors interested in applying for the 2017 service trip to Appalachia are reminded that applications are due no later than  November 18 . This year's trip will return to Neon, Kentucky and take place from  June 24 - July 2 . Click here for additional trip details and an application. Please contact Mr. Cipriano with any questions.
Save the Date! - Convivio March 3 - 5
Every year in the Diocese of Bridgeport, over two-hundred teens take part in a weekend event named CONVIVIO, an international conference of Catholic youth. The program first came to the United States in 2010. Coming from different towns and regions, teens meet at Sacred Heart University in Fairfield to be challenged in their Faith and to encounter Christ. This year's event will be held from March 3 - 5, 2017. Click here for more information.

Nominations are Now Being Accepted for the 2017 Alumni Hall of Fame
This award honors individuals whose deeds and character exemplify outstanding achievement in their life's work and/or service to their communities. The honoree's spirit and leadership are worthy of recognition and have inspired praises and gratitude among his or her peers. 

Deadline for nominations for 2017 is  Friday, November 11, 2016 . Next year's Alumni Hall of Fame inductions will be held on March 11, 2017 during the Lancer Legacy Gala.  Click here for more information and a nomination form. 
Class of 1966 - 50th Reunion

Scrapbooking Event - November 19th
Join us on Saturday, November 19 from 10am - 6pm for a day of scrapbooking fun! The cost is $40 per person and all proceeds benefit Notre Dame.  There will be vendors, raffle prizes and goodie bags with a continental breakfast, lunch & dessert provided! Guidance Department Update
College Rep Visits
Visits from college representatives are well underway. Seniors should look on Naviance for the full schedule. Seniors must sign up on Naviance to visit with a college representative. Once signed up, please stop by the Guidance Office at least two days prior to get a pass for that day. No student will be allowed to leave homeroom without a pass.  All visits will be at 8:00 a.m. in Room 205.

Seniors - Attend Albertus Magnus Fall Instant Decision Day 
Albertus Magnus College invites all students to attend their Fall Instant Decision Day on Saturday, November 19 .  Students who attend the event will be given an instant decision on their application and will be notified if they qualify for a contingent merit based scholarship. Students  are encouraged to complete an online application and arrive prepared with all other applicable application materials. Students will need to supply Albertus with a transcript, SAT/ACT scores, letters of recommendation and a personal essay.  The event will be held from 9:00 a.m until 1:00 pm.  If you have any questions for Albertus, please call 800-578-9160 or visit their web site: www.albertus.edu .

High School Essay Contest
Volunteer Square is thrilled to kick off their annual high school essay contest in partnership with Hearst Connecticut Media. The essay contest invites high school students in Fairfield County to tell us what community service means to them. Click here for more information. Deadline is November 7, 2016. Some great prizes are being offered - and first place last year was won by an ND student.

Young Artist Scholarship Awards for Playwriting
The Palace in Stamford is pleased to announce the third annual Young Artist Scholarship Awards for Playwriting. The 2017 scholarships will be awarded to three high school students for their writing of an original 15 minute, one act play. The three winning plays will be have a stage reading of their play at the Palace with professional New York actors. The students' will assist in directing their play during rehearsals the day of the reading. Criteria and an application can be obtained by clicking here. The deadline for submission is

Athletics Update
Lancer Week In Review
The football team picked up a big win last Friday night defeating Weston 26-0.  With the win, the team's record now stands at 3-4 matching their win total from last year with three games still left to play.  Micah Brantley '18 threw for 100 yds with a touchdown and rush for 95 yds and a touchdown.  Mike Bevino '17 had 2 receptions for 40 yds and a touchdown.  Defensively, Mike had 7 tackles, a sack, and a forced fumble.  Taevian Jackson '20 had 27 carries and rushed for 135 yds.  Defensively, he had a fumble recovery for 28 yds for a touchdown.  Clyde Auba '18 made 12 tackles and 2 sacks.  The football team will be in action in the final home game of the season on  Saturday, November 5, at 2:30 pm.  The senior football players and cheerleaders will be honored with a pre-game ceremony starting at  2pm.  

The boys' soccer team was the #3 seed in the SWC tournament and defeated Newtown (#6 seed) 1-0.  Felipe Canzian '18 had the goal with Pedro Oliviera '17 with the assist.  Marcelo DeSouza '19 had 2 saves in the win.   On Tuesday night, the boys lost to a very good Brookfield team in the SWC Semi-Finals 2-0.  This was the first appearance for the boys' soccer team in the SWC Semi-Finals.  The team had a great season in the SWC and will now prepare for the CIAC Class S State tournament.  As the number 5 seed, the boys will be hosting a first round game on  Tuesday, November 8th.  The game will be at Veteran's Park at  2pm vs. Housatonic.

The girls' soccer entered the SWC tournament as the #3 seed and defeated Immaculate last Saturday 2-0 to advance to the SWC Semi Finals with a rematch versus Masuk.  In the win against Immaculate, Kascia Zawadzki '19 and Samantha LaValle '17 each had a goal and Samantha Camacho '18 made 8 saves in the win.  The girls battled a tough Masuk team in the league Semi-Finals to a 1-1 tie in regulation and overtime.  Unfortunately, the team came up short losing on penalty kicks 3-2.  Bryanna Kydes '17 had the goal for the Lancers.  They had a great season in the league and now will get ready for the CIAC Class M State Tournament. As the number four seed, the girls will be hosting a first round game on  Monday, November 7th.  The game will be Veteran's Park at  2pm versus Bethel High School.

The girls' volleyball team entered the SWC tournament last week as the #7 seed which makes two years in a row the team has qualified for the league tournament.  The girls lost to a very good Barlow team and despite the loss, had a great year in the league.  As the #15 seed in Class S, the girls will host a first round state tournament game on  Monday, November 7th at  6pm at ND vs. Ellis Tech.

The boys' and girls' cross country teams competed in the CIAC Class SS Championship last weekend in Manchester.  Both teams ran great and the top finishers for ND were Jeremy Tierney '18 and Teresa Salamone '17.  Both teams had a great year and are looking forward to the Indoor Track season.

Good Luck to boys' soccer, girls' soccer and girls' volleyball as they begin CIAC State Tournament action beginning  Monday, November 7th.

Wrestling Meeting
Any student interested in wrestling this winter must attend a mandatory meeting on Wednesday, November 9 at 2:15 pm in cafe.
Girls' Hockey Practice
Girls' hockey players are reminded that practice begins on Friday, November 11 at 3pm at the Milford Ice Pavilion.  All physical and/or consent forms must be turned in by next Friday.  Any questions, see Mr. Bleggi.
Boys' Basketball Meeting
There will be a meeting for all students interested in trying out for the boys' basketball team on Thursday, November 10 at 6pm in the cafe.  A parent or guardian must attend the meeting with the student.  Any questions, please see Mr. Bleggi.
Athletic Event Season Passes Available
All Season athletic passes are on sale in Mr. Bleggi's office (Room 201) starting on Tuesday, September 6. Family passes are $75 (good for 4 people) and individual passes are $40. Please make checks out to Notre Dame HS.
