Russell's Ritings,
REFERENDUM RE: SUNDAY SCHOOL
We will begin our fall season of Sunday School soon. Mark your calendar for our Fall Festival coming up September 10. That day is a day of fun, food, and fellowship - but it also signals the beginning of a new Sunday School year.
Some churches are having referendums as to whether the Sunday School should be closed and regarded as an interesting part of our history, but something not vital today. Proponents of closing the Sunday School say it will:
- Provide more time for sleeping
- Allow more time for a home - cooked breakfast
- Allow more time to read the newspapers
- Allow us to beat the traffic on the way to Grandma's house
- Make it easier to get to the ball park
- Save the church money as we won't have to buy literature
- Free up church volunteers to do other things
- Reduce an hour of utilities
Maybe UMCE should vote on the Sunday School? What do you think? I have an idea. Let's take a vote on September 10. That gives you plenty time to think about your decision. To vote yes, please attend (mark your calendar now so you won't forget). To vote no, just don't come. Your decision!
(Please note - turn your sarcasm meter on while reading the above - but please see the truth in what's there! All the programs of the church depend on YOU).
This Sunday we will conclude the summer series on "The David Stories". The sermon will be "Walking Through the Valley" and the text is everyone's favorite Psalm of David, Psalm 23. We will also share in the baptism of Emmy Grace Mance (granddaughter of Mac and Nancy DeGuire), always a great and happy time in the life of a church. See you at UMCE where the folks are friendly!
Blessings,
Russell
