West Valley set to emerge as next hot retail submarket

The West Valley has, for a long time, gotten a bad rap. Many local restaurateurs have shied away from opening there and developers have shuddered at the thought of building west of Central Avenue.As the central Phoenix corridor becomes more dense, the bulk of development has been happening in the East Valley , partly because of big employers there, such as Intel Corp., Apple Inc. and Boeing Co.

GCU officially earns Division 1 status, becoming NCAA championship ready

PHOENIX - Grand Canyon University announced its official transition to a Division I athletics program Wednesday. The school has been working on becoming a D-I school for a few years now. Former Phoenix Sun's legend Dan Majerle is the current head coach of the Antelopes men's basketball team. The team played a D-I schedule in the Western Athletic Conference last season, but were not eligible for the NCAA tournament.

The City of Phoenix is on the rise

During the Great Recession, Phoenix — with its economy primarily based on real estate and construction — was one of the hardest-hit cities. Now the city is bouncing back, with city leadership focused on creating a more resilient economy.
