A Message from the Assistant Headmaster

Dear Parents,

It is hard to believe we are already past MEA Break and the midway point of the first semester! There's a part of me that feels like the school year is still just starting, but we are well underway. Elementary students will be bringing home progress reports on Tuesday, and parents are encouraged to use Educate to check the progress of their students in grades 7-12.

In The Educational Philosophy of Saint Agnes School we read, "Parents, the primary educators of their children, establish a partnership with Saint Agnes School when they choose our institution... Only when parents and the school truly work as a team can the formation of young men and women be successful." One opportunity to work as a team in the formation and education of your children is this Thursday with our Fall Parent/Teacher Conferences from noon to 8:00pm. This is a great time to touch base with your children's teachers about their progress and ways you can support their academic formation at home and ways we can support you at school. Conferences with elementary teachers are scheduled via SignUpGenius, and conferences with junior high and high school teachers are on a drop-in basis in the UAC Commons and Gruden Gym. If you cannot make Thursday's conferences, you are welcome to reach out to teachers directly for updates. Please note there is no school on Thursday!

The midway point of the semester also means it is playoff time for fall sports! We look forward to seeing many of you out to support the Aggie football team against Rush City on Tuesday night at Hamline University, and the Aggie volleyball team against St. Paul Johnson on Wednesday here at home in Bandas Gymnasium. Details are below. Congratulations to the Aggie cross-country team for their 6th place finish at the Conference meet this past Tuesday. The cross-country section meet is this Thursday at Battle Creek Regional Park. Varsity girls run at 4:00pm and varsity boys run at 4:30pm. Congratulations, too, to the boys and girls soccer teams and the members of the girls' swim and dive co-op as they have wrapped up their 2017 seasons. The grade school volleyball teams have playoffs this week, as well, culminating in the CAA Volleyball Championships being held here at Bandas Gymnasium this coming Sunday.

In Christ,
Karl Hendrickson

The Sight for Students program provides gift certificates for students, for a no-cost eye exam and, if prescribed, new glasses. Certificates may be distributed by the school nurse to students 19 or younger who qualify. To qualify, students must have a social security number and the family income must be at or below the 200% poverty line. Since 1997, Sight for Students has provided access to no-cost eye care and eyewear for more than 400,000 children in need. High School Students Learn About Human Freedom
During House time in the month of October, our high school students have been discussing the concept of human freedom, particularly in relationship to habits and environments that lead to genuine human flourishing and success. Students had the opportunity today to hear from Mr. Tim Murray, co-founder of Trinity Sober Homes, about the issues surrounding addictions and the importance of forming habits that sustain our freedom to pursue a successful and faith filled life. Mr. Murray's story has been featured previously in The Catholic Spirit and also on Relevant Radio.
