Westland Offers Permit Free Garage Sale Weekend and Free Bulk Drop Off Event

Westland, MI -    To help you get rid of gently used items and make a little money at the same time, the City of Westland is offering a Permit Free Garage Sale Weekend on September 8 and 9.  Residents who wish to have a garage sale on that weekend can do so and avoid the normal permit fee.  As an added incentive to participate and to help your garage sale be successful, the city will help promote your sale for free on the city's website.  Individuals will be able to view an interactive map to locate all of the garage sales in the area as well as search for particular items of interest.  Visit www.cityofwestland.com to register your sale or to search for garage sales near you.  In case of inclement weather, the following weekend, September 15 and 16 will act as the rain dates for this program.

For large items that you are unable to sell, the final free option of the season will be a free bulk drop off day on Saturday, September 16 from 8 a.m. - 2 p.m.  Westland residents can bring their bulk items to the DPS yard, located at 37137 Marquette and drop them off at no charge.  Proof of Westland residency will be required.  Examples of acceptable items include major and small appliances, carpet and padding, furniture, televisions, toilets and other generic bulky items. This is a residential program and commercial and building materials will not be accepted.

As part of Westland's Compassionate City Initiative, residents in need of assistance due to age or physical disability can call the Mayor's Office at 734-467-3200 by Wednesday, September 21st to make special arrangements on this day.

You can find information on all of these options and more about the City of Westland's sanitation program by visiting the Public Service section of  www.cityofwestland.com  or by calling the Department of Public Service at (734)728-1770.
