Dear Jones Family,

Saturday, October 14, was officially the wettest day in Chicago history! The torrents of rain did not dampen the enthusiasm of almost 5000 visitors who attended our annual selective enrollment Open House.  Braving the elements, prospective students and their parents toured our campus and spoke with teachers, students, and parents about what JCP has to offer to the kids of Chicago. I heard nothing but positive comments from our visitors.  It is little wonder that our Open House "seals the deal" for so many applicants and their families.

Many thanks to everyone who made this terrific day possible. Special thanks go to our Friends of Jones volunteers who provided the organization necessary for us to successfully host so many guests.  FOJ is the best!

As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me at any time at 773-534-8606 or   [email protected].

Sincerely,
P. Joseph Powers, Ph.D.

JONES 5K: TODAY IS THE DAY! (Sunday)

THE DAY HAS ARRIVED!!!
Sunday, Oct. 22 at 10 am in Washington Park

You can still join the fun.  Head over to Washington Park (map) near University of Chicago campus and register on site or just show up to cheer on the more than 400 runners and walkers expected. Bring the little ones for the Eaglet run and your four-legged friends for exercise. Don't miss the club booths, post-race raffle and Big Mama's food truck.

Day of Race Registration: $20 for students and JCP faculty/staff, $40 for adults.

Fun for all!

Jones Open House

JCP Selective Enrollment Open House 2017 - Deluged with Prospects

Rain or shine, Jones is in demand!

Jones hosted almost 5,000 prospective students at this year's open house. Despite the weather, eager students and their families waited in line to enter Jones for an introduction by Dr. Powers, to learn about our academics, clubs, sports, and arts, and to tour our impressive buildings.

Many thanks to the 100's of parent and student volunteers, faculty and staff who devoted their time to making our school shine and attract the city's brightest and most diverse students.

Annual Fund

The annual fund continues to gain momentum...we added our first "achievement" stripe on the Annual Fund thermometer hanging in the lobby! With a goal of $250,000 and 100% participation, we need EVERYONE to participate. No amount is too small to make a difference.

Wondering why you should participate? Here are another 5 great reasons:
  1. There is a significant gap between funding from the state and what it takes to provide Jone's excellent education.
  2. Our kids get into AMAZING colleges and universities and are well prepared for their next life chapter.
  3. You don't pay tuition!
  4. A new state-of-the art sign on State Street will allow us to spotlight our students' accomplishments.
  5. Annual fund dollars benefit every student. Click here to review the list of grants made by FOJ funds over the past two school years.

Curious Jones

Our Beginnings...

The Board of Education, in the 1930's, saw the need for an education program to train skilled office workers in the booming business sector. Thus, in 1938, the city created Jones Commercial High School. The modern six-story structure at 606 South State Street was built to resemble an office building. Jones Commercial's two-year program qualified "Jonesites" for a wide range of skilled office work.  Jones was the first Chicago school to engage in Cooperative Work-Study programs organized to give students practical experience.
