Councilmember Melissa Fox Advises City Manager to Submit U.S. Department of Transportation Proposal for Autonomous Vehicle Testing
 Fox says Irvine's Great Park perfect proving ground for new transportation technology.
I
rvine, CA -- At the request of Irvine City Councilmember Melissa Fox, the City of Irvine has submitted a proposal to the U.S. Department of Transportation, expressing the City of Irvine's interest to become a testing site or "proving ground" for autonomous vehicle technology.
"Autonomous vehicle technology has the potential to have a very positive impact on congested traffic throughout Irvine. Self-driving vehicles can be a life-saving and economy-boosting technology, with the potential to transform how we live, work and travel. I want Irvine to be in the forefront of this exciting innovation and continue to be a leader in cutting-edge research. The Great Park would be an ideal location for testing this technology." Fox said.
Fox added: "I look forward to working with my colleagues on the City Council to integrate cutting-edge transportation innovations into the City of Irvine. Our City is a leader in business (number 1 in job-to-population ratio in the nation), public safety, and in educational support of the young people who will be leaders in technological breakthroughs. It is my hope that we will be able to use these new technologies to resolve Irvine's traffic problems - making Irvine a better place to live, work and raise a family."

Take the Irvine Business Complex Survey
Help us plan our City to meet your

The City of Irvine is conducting surveys of residents and businesses in the Irvine Business Complex (IBC) to solicit opinions as to how this area should evolve in the future. This will help us make better decisions regarding traffic, transportation, biking, parks, schools and retail development.
By completing a quick, online survey, you will assist the City in addressing a wide range of IBC planning issues including: how to balance the mix of residential, commercial, and indu
strial uses, provide for neighborhood-serving retail and public amenities, protect existing businesses, and improve pedestrian circulation.
Please take a few minutes to answer the following important questions to the best of your ability.

Chinese New Year Concert
Celebrate the Year of the Rooster on January 28th with the Pacific Symphony!
Celebrate the Lunar New Year with the
Pacific Symphony and usher in the Year of the Rooster with music and dance. The program includes the popular Spring Festival Overture by Li Huanzhi, the traditional "Jasmine Flower" and the delightful Butterfly Lovers Concerto featuring world-famous
George Gao. The evening culminates in the inspirational "Ode to Joy" from Beethoven's magnificant Ninth Symphony, when the Pacific Chorale is joined by the American Feel Young Chorus.

Irvine Home to New Music and Dance School
Non-profit school will provide specialized training for Irvine students.
The City of Irvine will soon be home to a new public, non-profit community music and dance school, Orange County Music and Dance, to be located at 17620 Fitch Avenue, Irvine, CA 92614, in the same building as the Pacific Symphony.
Serving elementary and secondary school children (grades 5-12), many of the anticipated 300-400 students will come from Irvine. In partnership with local Irvine schools, OC Music and Dance will provide specialized education in music and dance to students of all incomes. The opening date is not set.

Welcome to Kindergarten!
Free workshops for parents.
"Welcome to Kindergarten" is a
free workshop for parents interested in learning more about the Irvine and Tustin Unified School Districts' enrollment process, kindergarten, and transitional kindergarten programs. Visit
iusd.org to determine which school district your child will attend due to school district boundaries. TUSD workshop is Jan. 19 at Northwood Community Park. IUSD workshop is Feb. 9 at City Hall. Registration not required, Seating will be available on a first-come, first-served basis. The IUSD presentation can be viewed online one week after the event at cityofirvine.org/ICTV.

Join Us for Two Senior Strategic Plan Community Imput Meetings
 Let us know how the City can better serve Irvine's seniors.
The public is invited to attend and participate in two open meetings that will focus on the Irvine Strategic Plan's priority areas of education, housing, transportation, health and recreation, social well-being, and vulnerable seniors.

- 1/26 Dedication Ceremony at Quail Hill Community Center at 6:00 p.m. The Quail Hill Community Center will officially open to the public during a dedication ceremony with self-guided tours and an exhibit of the City of Irvine 45th Anniversary Photo contest winning submissions.
