The Irrepressible Other
Exodus 1: 8-14
Katie Kinnison Preaching
I picked these passages and these sermon titles in May before I left for my sabbatical, and I had no idea what would be happening now in the world. Each of these passages and the process of chewing on them and living with them is serving to bring me ever deeper into what is happening, into the pain and the violence and the grace that is unfolding in the midst of it all.
It seems like everyone around us is freaking out about some "other." Fear grips hearts, freezes out compassion, urges everyone into a violent quest for power, insisting that there is not enough of what we need to go around.
The good news offers another way. Loving can open possibilities we never dared imagine. Now, I am not about to break into a coca-cola commercial. You and I will need to be brave for this kind of loving, for our hearts will be broken open and our egos crushed. There will be a kind of death.
And there will be resurrection.
Yours ever in that promise,
