The Pause program, an initiative of the Family and Children First Council, has created the Family Connections E-Newsletter as part of our commitment to resource families in Butler County.  While this newsletter includes Pause specific information, every family will find great opportunities to connect with each other and with other families in the community! All events are FREE unless noted otherwise!

  Upcoming Pause Events 
Pause is committed to assisting families of children with physical, mental, developmental, medical, behavioral or learning challenges, access to a broad range of support options by maximizing the use of community resources and family support networks . On the current menu of options, Pause provides: respite, free family fun events, caregiver networking/resourcing and community service events to help families with tangible needs.

October Pause Parent's Night Out Events!


This FREE program is designed to provide a fun, safe environment for children so that you can get a break to recharge your battery!

Your child will be paired with a buddy whose main goal will be to spend quality time having fun and caring for them. We will have dinner, snacks, do craft projects, play games and more!

This year, we are requiring an updated 2017-18 Consent to Release Information Form and completion of all missing documents before registration.

We are excited to see your family again! We want all of our families to register for our events! However, due to required documents needed by the program we unfortunately will not be able to accept registrations from any family who is missing paperwork.
 
Once your paperwork is submitted, you can register for the upcoming Parent's Night Out Events on our website.

UPCOMING EVENTS 


At once-a-week classes, Darby's Dancers learn all types of dance in a fun, encouraging atmosphere. Dancers in the program gain confidence, coordination, strength and lifelong friends, all while feeling like a star. Darby's Dancers also provides volunteer opportunities for teens. 
Youth volunteers learn important lessons in responsibility and friendship by providing one-on-one assistance to a special needs dancer, all while sharing what they love.

The Other "A" Word: Anxiety and Autism Spectrum Disorders/ Developmental Disabilities
August 30, 5:30-7:30pm
This 2-hour session will discuss symptoms of anxiety commonly experienced by individuals with ASD/DD, practical strategies to address these symptoms, and structured programs used to manage anxiety.  For more information or class registration contact Jennifer Gastright at 513-636-2742 or [email protected] . Transition Bootcamp is a one-day conference for parents/caregivers, youth with disabilities, educators and other professionals interested in transition preparation from high school to adult life.  it is followed up with multiple in-depth sessions on transition topics throughout the year.

Skate your way to family fun at the Goggin Ice Center! Public ice skating is available all year at various times, and makes for a fun family activity.

September 8th, Second Friday of Every Month, 6-9pm
Open Artist Studios on the 3rd floor and the Art Shop on the 1st floor give guests the opportunity to view creative art spaces, as well as purchase one-of-a-kind artwork directly from the artists. New and exciting concerts by local musicians and exhibitions opening with an artists' reception.


September 9th
This monthly urban, curated market features a wide variety of local artisans who specialize in handcrafted goods and unique, high-quality services. Food trucks are on site for when hunger strikes!

Every Saturday through October 9am-1pm
Enjoy the freshest food in town year round at West Chester's Farmers Market.  Local growers and makers of fine foods and arts are on hand at this one-of-a-kind market that also features fun activities for the family and entertainment.

Every Wednesday, 7-9pm
Celebrate the middle of the week with an evening concert at the beautiful VOA MetroPark lake. Bring your lawn chairs, blankets, and friends, every Wednesday throughout the summer (May 31 - August 23) for a variety of bands. Tasty dinner and drinks will be available for purchase on the Ronald Reagan Lodge patio.

August 3 - Giving Back: Hereos
This month, Alive After 5 is giving back while also honoring the police, fire, and military heroes in our community! The  Hamilton Fire Department  and  Hamilton Police Department - Ohio  will both be out to show their equipment and host family-friendly activities. High Street shops will also choose charities to give back to, so support your local shops while also supporting a good cause!

Join every little conductor's favorite tank engine, Thomas, during this month-long Thomas the Tank Engine extravaganza. This indoor celebration of the world's most famous tank engine include Thomas wooden train layouts, Thomas HO scale electric train display, videos, Thomas & Friends scavenger hunts, crafts and even a Thomas indoor train ride.
 
September 1st-3rd
Bring out the Lederhosen for a Labor Day weekend Oktoberfest at Liberty Home Association. Homemade German food includes mettwurst, bratwurst, sauerkraut, potato salad, pretzels, cream puffs, and more! German beer will of course be served too! Live German entertainment, games, and dancing are all part of the fun.

Ice Cream Making
September 2-3rd, 12-4pm
The Oxford Museum Association will be making ice cream all day. Stop by, learn how, and get a sample! Attend this free event at the Doty Homestead!
 
September 4th, 1-8pm
Stricker's Grove in Hamilton will be open for family fun on Labor Day. This amusement park is only open to the public on limited days throughout the day. Labor Day specials include $1 cotton candy, $1 Sno-Cones, $1 popcorn and free soft drinks!
 
September 7th through  October 31st, Saturdays 12-10pm, Sundays 12-6pm
Located in Reily Township you'll find Wendel Farms. Each weekend in the fall they offer a family fun fall festival. You are welcomed to the farm with a 6.5 acre corn maze, petting zoo and a hayride to the pick your own pumpkin patch. (They even have tricylces for adults to ride). 
 
September 22 through October 29th, see website for times
At this popular fall event you can navigate a 14 acre corn maze, take a hayride and pick the perfect pumpkin. Family photo opportunities can be found around the farm. Enjoy fall treats such as kettle-corn, caramel apples or the famous Niederman cinnamon-sugar donuts. In the evening, gather around a bonfire and cozy up with family and friends for stories and s'mores.
 
September 16, 10-4pm
Lasso up some fun at this year's Horse Daze! Come out to enjoy horse rides, tractor drawn hayrides, horse photo opportunities, demonstrations, games & activities!
 
September 16th through October 31st, 9-7pm
Open Saturdays and Sundays! This family farm market has a "Tiny Town" play village, corn maze, straw maze, animals, pumpkin patch and a picnic area. Throughout the farm you'll find photo opportunities and farm equipment displays.
 
September 16th, 10am
Meet with local cycling club, River Riders, to explore the Hamilton Bike Path. Set your own pace, and distance, and be sure to meet up at Municipal Brew Works to celebrate a great ride. This ride is open to all ages, and experience levels. Get outside, get some fresh air, and take in the sights with new friends. Meet at the Fitton Center at 10AM, and be ready to roll by 10:15AM.
 
Bicentennial Celebration
September 22-23, see website for times
Celebrate the bicenentenial of the city of Monroe with a weekend of events for the whole family. Featuring rides, live music, games, circus performers, and fireworks. Some of the highlights of the weekend include; Jo Dee Messina, Little Texas, Darryl Worley, and the Cincinnati Circus Company Pirates! Admission is free!
 
September 23-24
$5 per car. Each year in late September, Pyramid Hill invites artists from around the country to showcase their creations during the popular Art Fair showcase event. The Art Fair draws skilled artisans selling hundreds of unique handmade creations ranging from metal work to mixed medium paintings.
 
September 23, 11-3pm
Enjoy fall family fun at its finest in Liberty Township, Ohio. This annual fall festival has tons of activities for all ages to enjoy. Make a free craft, play on inflatables and listen to live entertainment. Don't miss the Paws on Parade featuring a costumed dog parade at 12:30PM!
