Blessing of the Backpacks
All children and youth (preschool through 12th grade) are invited to bring their backpacks and join us for a blessing on Sunday, August 27th during the 10:00 a.m. worship service! Whether your child has already started school or is starting soon, First Presbyterian Church wants to support them as they start a new year. As we pray for their education and school year activities, backpacks will be blessed, and they will receive a reminder that God is with them -- wherever they are!
Save the Date for Rally Day!
Mark your calendars for Rally Day on September 10th! Come celebrate with your church family as we kick off the Fall season! The 8:45 and 11:00 o'clock services return and all ages are invited to gather at 9:00 a.m. in Davis Hall to learn about all the educational and faith building opportunities you can experience during the Sunday School hour. To cap off such a wonderful day, you are invited to the Potluck Luncheon in Davis Hall following the 11:00 service. Look for more information in next week's Banner!
From the Music Director...
The music staff at First Presbyterian invite you to prayerfully consider playing an active role in our programs this year. As a choir participant, early worship hymn leader, second adult supervisor, or engaged listener, your part is important  to us and necessary in the life of our church.
Our children's choir (k-5) meets regularly on Wednesday evenings from 6:30 p.m .- 7:30 p.m. Drop off and pick up occur in Davis Hall while rehearsals take place in the Education Building 3rd floor. Our 2017 Children's Christmas Musical called "Journey to Bethlehem" will take place on Wednesday, December 6th following our last Wednesday night dinner.
Our youth choirs rehearse regularly on Sunday afternoons in coordination with our youth program.  The Middle School Choir rehearses from 4:00 p.m - 5:00 p.m. in the Education Building 3rd floor. Drop-off is at the side door of the Education Building. Following rehearsal, the middle schoolers go directly to Davis Hall for Youth gathering. The High School Choir follows the same routine but rehearses from 5:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. On special Sundays when youth group is combined, BOTH choirs rehearse together from 4:00 p.m. -. 5:00 p.m. Our first rehearsal this year will be a combined meeting from 4:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 10th (Rally Day). Our youth led Christmas pageant and candlelight gathering will be on Sunday, December 17th at 5:00 p.m. Come hear our mighty youth choirs!
Finally, our Sanctuary Choir, comprising youthful adults and some adult-like youth, rehearses regularly on Wednesdays from 7:30 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. in the Education Building 3rd floor (beginning September 6th). Please mark your calendars for our special Christmas presentation on Sunday, December 10th  (8:45 a.m. and 11:00 a.m.), when the Sanctuary Choir and members of the Charlotte Symphony will perform Saint-Saen's "Christmas Oratorio." The Sanctuary Choir will also premiere a new choral work by our own Jacquie Yost called "Gloria" and sing Handel's riveting "Hallelujah Chorus" at the close of worship.
Remember, everyone can participate in our music program.  We need your support, your voices, and your ears. Spread the word at work and in the community. Invite your friends to our performances and worship!
Lay Liturgists for Worship Needed
