Principal Notes
Dear Families,

The carefree days of summer are over. The warm gentle breezes are still with us as we settle into a pattern of all the things that come with returning to school.  These first few days have just sped by.
I am looking forward to seeing you all tonight at our Back to School Open House from 3:00-7:00. The teachers are excited to be back and ready to start another school year.

I know that many of you are still having some bus issues.  Please stop in the gym when you are here tonight.  Jake from Go Riteway will be here to answer your questions.

There are only 51 days left before the Soles for Catholic Education Walk. Please mark your calendar for Saturday, October 21 st  to walk at Mount Mary University.  Registration is free through September 19 and you get a really cool t-shirt for registering.  T-shirts are delivered to school before the event.  Soles Walk Day is like a mini parish festival for the Archdiocese.  There's fun, laughter, games, music, food and more!

Remember that 100% of your pledge money raised stays at St. Mary's. This year we will be raising money for a Makerspace.  A Makerspace is a general term for a place where students get together to make things.  Our hope is that this space will lead to determination, independence and creative problem solving and an authentic preparation for the real world through simulating real world challenges. This will be a work in progress for years to come.   Go to www.catholicschoolswalk.org to register under the St. Mary's Visitation Team.

Also this year you can win Converse high tops: Five (5)  students from our school have a chance to win brand new red Converse high tops.  All they need to do is gather a group of five (5) individuals, all wearing t-shirts from the previous years' Soles for Catholic Education Walks, take a fun photo and send it to Marcy Stone at  [email protected] .  A photo will be chosen at random - in addition to winning a pair of red Converse high tops, winners will also get to ring the bells with the Archbishop to start the Walk.

6 th -8 th grade parents please mark your calendars.  We will have an orientation meeting for you on the evening of Wednesday, September 6 th .  We will begin with a short meeting in the school atrium at 6:30.  You then will be going to the classrooms and following your child's schedule where you will have a short overview of the year.

If you are a new family, you are invited to our New Parent Social on Thursday, September 7th at 7:00 p.m. Please join us on the school patio for a social to get to know other families.

SMV is collecting new or gently used child and adult backpacks. The backpack donations will be sent to Despensa de la Paz, a local food pantry who helps provide food and clothing to those in need. The backpacks will go to children and adults who are in need of backpacks for the new school year. What a great way to start off the year and help other children and adults in need! Drop off your backpack donation at the table in the school atrium.

If you have any questions or concerns, please give me a call at 262-782-7057 or email me at [email protected].  I would be happy to help.

Faithfully yours,

Mrs. Mary Tretow
Principal

Office Notes
Forms
We are asking that ALL parents to fill out the forms before the open house.  The forms are all located on the left side of the VB under SMV forms.  This is necessary because we use these forms for emergency contact information.  This is something that should be done on a computer and not on a phone.

Playground and Lunchroom Duties
Built into your tuition are several fees such as playground/hot lunch duty and the book and tech fees.  We ask that every family, except K3 and K4 half day families, signs up to do six duties of either playground or hot lunch room duty or a combination of the two.
The hot lunch/playground deposit will be refunded once you have completed your six days in the lunchroom or playground.
Remember to check into the school office before doing your duty.  This way we can keep track if you show up and if we have enough people to supervise the children.

Immunization Records
The Archdiocese requires that we have on file an immunization form for each child.  We have to do a report to the Arch and the State of Wisconsin requiring us to list how many students are in compliance.  There is a box to check if you chose not to have your child immunized and we still need that form.

This Year School Supplies
If you still need to purchase school supplies you can find the list  here

Bussing
If you would like to send a concern or request a route change, please use this online form

Library Volunteers
The effectiveness of our school library is driven by the many volunteers who help with book check-out, book shelving, and other tasks. Last year over 30 volunteers came one or more times each month to assist during their child's class. No experience is necessary and younger siblings are welcome. Attached is a schedule of class days and times. Notice that the younger grades will be coming to the library twice each week, so there are many more spots to fill. Please contact Miss Benson by phone or e-mail to volunteer.  ( [email protected])

Home & School Happenings

Welcome back to school!  We are so excited to get things kicked off.  Home and School is an organization for SMV parents.  We host a variety of events and raise funds for the school.  We have a few events coming up  - please save the date -

September 7th - New Parent Social - Get together for all new parents

September 17th - Parish Picnic - This is a 6th grade event and all 6th grade families should plan to help out.  Michelle Griffin and Jen Zierer are the co-chairs for this event.  Michelle Griffin ( [email protected] ) and Jen Zierer ( [email protected] )

October 7th - Trivia Night - Fun night for Parents

October 20th - Spooks and Spoofs - This is a 4th grade event, but we will need lots of help to make this night a success.  Please contact Sue Olbrantz,  [email protected]  to volunteer.

There are many ways to get involved and we need volunteers.  Send us an email if you would like to join a committee.

Spirit Wear
Greetings Parents!   Your mid-summer spirit wear order will be available for pick-up at the spirit wear table in the gym for Back to School Night on August 24th. Please stop by the table and pick up your new items!  Should you miss us at Back to School Night, the items will be given to your child's homeroom teacher to be sent home on the first day of school.

The Back to School spirit wear sale should be open for business on Burghardt's website by Back to School Night. If you missed the mid-summer sale, need to size-up, or have to get that gym uniform on your list, it's not too late! Please click here for the Burghardt's website.
