Two major world premieres and the Brahms Requiem with the Oratorio Society of New York, a program celebrating the history of New York's immigrants at the Cathedral of St. John the Divine, and those great Messiahs at Carnegie Hall - tickets are on sale now to the events of Kent's 2017-18 season! Here are some of the highlights:
  • World premieres of Pulitzer Prize winner Paul Moravec's Sanctuary Road, an OSNY commission drawing from accounts of the Underground Railroad with libretto by Mark Campbell; and Behzad Ranjbaran's We Are One, which calls for peace in multiple languages, with the Oratorio Society of New York (May 7 at Carnegie Hall)

  • Arvo Pärt's Miserere for five vocal soloists and choir, winds, brass, electric and bass guitars, percussion, and organ, that Kent calls "a piece practically tailor-made" for the Cathedral of St. John the Divine, along with music of Stravinsky and Kodály (March 20)

  • Brahms's Ein deutsches Requiem with soloists Susanna Phillips and John Chest with the Oratorio Society of New York (November 6 at Carnegie Hall)

  • A celebration of New York immigrants with the Cathedral Choir of St. John the Divine and early/world music ensemble Rose of the Compass, featuring the world premiere of a commission by Robert Sirota, folk music of Ireland and the Baltic region, and choral works of Palestrina and Rachmaninoff (April 9)

  • "Light of Light," a program of music by Lassus, Lauridsen, and Leonin with Musica Sacra that Kent calls "a sonic tour de force of music spanning a thousand years" (March 6 at the Cathedral of St. John the Divine)

  • Mozart's Requiem and Carissimi's Jephte with students of the Manhattan School of Music

  • Two major New York organ recitals - at the Church of St. Ignatius Loyola (October 22) and the Cathedral of St. John the Divine (February 6) - and three performances as soloist in the Saint-Saëns "Organ Symphony" with the New York Philharmonic (February 8-10)
Musica Sacra and Oratorio Society of New York season subscriptions and Great Music in a Great Space  tickets are available now - see the links below and stay tuned to future newsletters and Kent's Facebook page for updates.

And if you happen to be around Cologne or Frankfurt in late August - make your way to the town of Kyllburg, where Kent will be playing an organ recital at the Stiftskirche on August 27 (it was to be at Himmerod Abbey in Grosslitgen, but the Abbey suffered a fire, and rather than cancel the recital, it was decided to relocate to this 1276 church).
