A Preview of Betrayal at Capital Stage
Sunday, January 15 from 3-4:30 pm
Betrayal (first performed in 1978) is perhaps the best known of the Nobel Prize winning playwright's many memorable works. The play, about an affair between a man and his best friend's wife, moves backward in time (a revolutionary idea at the time), beginning two years after the affair has ended. Stephanie Tucker, retired Sacramento State English professor and Capital Stage's Literary Manager, will begin by discussing Pinter's life and writings. Director Janis Stevens will then introduce the cast members, who will perform a crucial scene from the play. The audience will get an exciting glimpse into how a scene is shaped in rehearsal.

As Betrayal ends its run and after Notable Books patrons have had a chance to see the play, Janis Stevens and Stephanie Tucker will return, joined by retired Sacramento State English professor David Bell, to lead a discussion of this fascinating play with audience members.
