Dear Parents,
We are very excited to share that Akiva Academy will participate in the Shabbos Project this year. This year, the Shabbos Project is Parshat Lech Lecha which is next Shabbat, Friday, October 27th and Saturday, October 28th.This beautiful program, spearheaded by the chief Rabbi of South Africa, seeks to enhance everyone's Shabbat experience. Thousands of people from around the world join together to honour and remember Shabbat in many different ways.
How will we be involved & how can you help?
1. Challah bake - Wednesday night, October 25th, 6:45 pm. Please rsvp to o[email protected] if you haven't yet!
2. Shabbat kit - Watch out for the beautiful Divrei Torah booklet and game your child will bring home as a special gift for your family!
3. Seudat Shabbat experience - Friday, October 27th from 12:30-2. Students from grades 1-9 will create small "families". From preparing Shabbat to lighting candles, singing zemirot, and special Shabbat food, your children will revel in the joy of a mini-Shabbat meal!
We are looking for volunteers
to help set during the program from 11:30-2:30. Please contact Mrs. Halpern at morahhalpern@akiva.ca if you are available!
4. If you would like ideas how to enhance and celebrate Shabbat either in your own home or together with friends please see www.theshabbosproject.org.
5. Shabbat Together- Invite another family to spend Shabbat together! If anyone would like to join another family to celebrate Shabbat together, please email Marina Segal at [email protected]. She is happy to arrange accommodations.
6. Sponsorships- We would appreciate sponsors to help make this meaningful project possible. Please reply if you would like to help out in this mitzvah.
Looking forward to sharing these special experiences with you!
