 Donate NOW
Dear Friends,

As the year draws to a close, we want to pause for a moment to express our gratitude for all the support you have offered our organization this year.

2016 has been a transformative year for SENG, and we could not have done it without your support. Be it through your contribution as a SENG member, your purchase of a SENGinar, your participation in conference, your support of the James T. Webb Scholarship or via a personal donation, SENG is honored to steward t he resources you have entrusted to us as your charitable partner.

Every gift made to SENG is incredibly valuable. Through your generosity, we were able to serve the social and emotional needs of the gifted, and we live on to support the needs of our community tomorrow.

Finally, we would like to thank everyone who made a donation during this past month's 30 Days of Giving. Your generosity changes lives, and every dollar will contribute to providing support for the gifted community.

We look forward to continuing our work in 2017, and are glad to have you with us on this journey.

Wishing you a happy new year!

Giftedness in the Work Environment: Backgrounds and Practical Recommendations
by Noks Nauta & Sieuwke Ronner

In practice, various definitions of giftedness exist, a fact which has not made the communication concerning giftedness any easier.  A gifted individual is a quick and clever thinker, who is able to deal with complex matters. An individual who is autonomous, curious and passionate. A sensitive and emotionally rich person, who is living intensely. He or she is a person who enjoys being creative.  More...
100 Words of Wisdom: Giftedness is Quirky
by Rose Blackett

Giftedness is quirky; she wears her unique feather cloak with abandon.

She cares little for how others judge her as she dances her own sequence through a colourful life.

Giftedness has learned to accept her intensity.  More...

The Talent of Being Inconvenient
by Roland S. Persson, Ph.D.

Question: Why and when are gifted individuals likely to be "considered inconvenient or ignored"?

Answer: In many ways this is a complex question, but, for a change, I believe the answer is fairly simple and straight forward. A gifted individual becomes inconvenient either when posing a threat to others' low self-esteem or when being perceived as a threat to social authority.    More...
Inclusive Communities Say No
by Kate Bachtel

Many among us have fantasized about a world where there is only one rule: "Be Kind." We imagine a utopic society where everyone is held in a global embrace. Connection to others is immeasurably important, especially for outliers whose developmental uniqueness is socially isolating by definitionArguably, feeling connected to community is the single most important predictor of healthy emotional development and achievement for gifted learners.   More...
The Patchwork of Educating the Gifted Child
by Heidi Molbak

As parents, grandparents, teachers or others in a gifted child's life we sometimes accidentally discover that these children don't see or participate in the world like most other children around us do.  We don't plan on a child being so different from others - we notice it.  It can take numerous schools - in my case seven by the time my oldest son was ten - for a parent to figure out that the constant search for an appropriate education is indeed a patchwork of sorts, a delicate gumbo of ideas, efforts, mistakes and love.   More...

Post of the Month

Every day, SENG shares articles and information with the gifted community via Facebook, Twitter, and Tumblr.

The article Raising A Profoundly Gifted Child  by Amy Harrington was widely read and appreciated in our online community this month.

Visit us on Tumblr!  Tumblr is a valuable and vibrant online community, where many teens and young adults find solace if they feel "different" from the rest of the world... whether it is because of their interests, their identities, their disabilities, or their gifts.
