Meeting with an Academic Counselor at least once a semester is key to your success!!!

Whether you have one or more  educational goals, or are undecided about your educational path; it is important that you understand how your classes satisfy different requirements for an AA/AS degree and/or for transferring to a university.

Now is the time to meet with an Academic Counselor!!!
We offer 45 minute appointments throughout the day.
Currently, there are plenty of appointments available and a minimal waiting time to schedule an appointment!

Meeting with a counselor early will help you in so many ways:
  • Avoid the long student lines before the schedule of classes is released and priority registration dates are posted on Pipeline
  • Understand the courses you need to register for the following terms
  • Learn what degree(s) you may be eligible to complete
  • Effectively plan and sequence your courses to increase your course completion and success rates
  • Strategize which classes to take and plan your future class schedule
  • Be confident that the classes you are taking are helping you reach your educational goal(s)
No one likes long lines or agonizing waits,  get your appointment early!!!
How to schedule your counseling appointment:

Appointments are scheduled for the same-day only on a first come, first served basis.

We open at 8 a.m. and encourage you to come in as early as possible to schedule your appointment.

Maximize your academic counseling appointment:
  • Schedule your appointment before demand for counseling services intensifies
  • Know which universities you are interested in (give yourself plenty of options)
  • Review the previous summer session 1 & 2 schedules and the fall schedule to get an idea of what may be offered this coming summer and fall
  • Develop a tentative schedule before you meet with them
Ask for clarification on issues or concerns you may have
  • Check your Degree Works audit  to see what you have completed and what you have left toward completing your SBCC educational goals or for transfer.
  • Ask about taking classes for Pass/No Pass vs. a letter grade
  • Ask about double majoring and/or earning a minor
Having difficulty making  a counseling appointment?
Not to worry, we can still help you:
  • Check out Degree Works that evaluates your courses towards completing any AA/AS Degree, Certificate, Skills Competency Award, IGETC and CSU Breadth
We truly hope to see you soon!!!

Sincerely,

Academic Counseling Center
