Plaza Health Welcomes First Director of Clinical Innovation and Education

Plaza Health Network, an award-winning network of seven rehabilitation and skilled nursing centers in Miami-Dade county, is proud to announce that Sarah Pana, RN, BSN, will be serving as the network's first Director of Clinical Innovation and Education. In her new leadership role, Pana will draw on more than 10 years of health care experience to develop and implement evidence-based programs that advance the scope and effectiveness of services to current and future patients and residents.

Pana joined Plaza Health Network in 2011 as a Minimum Data Set Coordinator and registered nurse at both Jackson Plaza and Aventura Plaza, eventually rising through the ranks to Director of Nursing at Jackson Plaza.

"Sarah has excelled in her commitment to South Florida's elderly and post-acute population at our centers," said Elaine Bloom, President and CEO of Plaza Health Network. "Given the rapid pace of change in the world of health care, we need to stay ahead of it. Sarah will help us offer innovative programs so we can continue to provide the best care for our patients and residents."

Pana began her nursing career in the Philippines as a clinical staff nurse at German Doctors Hospital after working as a high school teacher. Upon moving to South Florida, she was a clinical staff nurse at Jackson North Medical Center.

Modernizing Medicine Celebrates Ophthalmology EHR Enhancements and Milestone
SPONSOR

Specialty-specific health information technology company Modernizing Medicine, Inc. (based in Boca Raton) recently announced that EMA, modmed Ophthalmology's EHR system developed by practicing ophthalmologists, now includes several product enhancements, as well as an interface with FlexSys to enable an optical inventory solution.

The latest release of the mobile, cloud-based EHR system includes several client-requested enhancements. Advanced tasking management is part of a strategy to help clients better manage patient care communication among the clinical and administrative staff and physicians in their offices. With this feature users can assign "to dos," easily take action on assigned tasks, prioritize, link tasks to visits and more. Another new addition is an auditable system to manage workflow communications and patient follow-ups, including scheduling with another doctor or additional tests. Finally, users now can reorder or remove impressions, plans and tests that don't pertain to them or based on preference and subspecialty.

The company is celebrating that over 20,000 ophthalmology users of EMA have completed over 10 million eye care patient encounters in the EHR system. This robust database can support ophthalmologists in the transition to value-based healthcare and the new Merit-based Incentive Payment System (MIPS), which will reimburse providers based on how they perform as compared to their peers.

Seven Global Leaders to Highlight Dramatic Shifts in Diagnostic and Treatment Management of Prostate Cancer

Seven of the world's most innovative cancer doctors representing elite medical institutions including the National Institutes of Health, MD Anderson Cancer Center, Johns Hopkins, Columbia University and University College London will present the latest science and protocols for prostate cancer diagnosis and treatment at the 9th W.B. Ingalls Memorial Prostate Health and Cancer Symposium being held J anuary 28, 2017 at Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton.

The presenters' recent practice-changing breakthroughs in prostate medicine provide patients and their doctors with critical information that they can use in reaching a therapeutic decision. The presentations address a wide range of concerns that confront a staggering number of men, including one of every four men in Florida.

Among the latest findings that will be discussed include when to change course from "active surveillance," the use of MRI-guided biopsy for detection and "focal" therapy*, immunotherapy strategies, treatment approaches that target genes that drive aggressive prostate cancer, and a first-hand account of a physician's success in achieving remission in his own advanced prostate cancer.

Organized by Health Information Research, Inc. (HIR) and the International Cancer Alliance for Research and Education (ICARE), the symposium agenda includes a question and answer session after each lecture, as well as a morning and afternoon panel discussion featuring all presenters.

In addition, a new level of support also is being offered to all patients attending the symposium - a personalized cancer management approach called the International Prostate Cancer Investigative Team (I-Team). The I-Team is a unique program that matches patients and their primary doctors with the world's leading physicians and research scientists.
