PRINCIPAL'S LETTER
Dear Holy Name families,
Welcome Back to Holy Name School for the 2017-2018 school year! We are very excited to be starting a new school year with all of you and your children. There is a lot of positive energy in the school which is what we love!
Thank you to all of our K-5 parents who attended last week's Back to School Night.
Save the Date:
- Thursday, August 24th-
- Picture Day! Please be sure to return your forms.
- 6th-8th Back to School Night from 6-8:30PM. We ask that all parents and students attend. Please meet in the gym.
- Sunday, August 27th- Youth Ministry BBQ following the 9:30AM mass- all 6th-8th students and parents are invited!
- Monday, August 28th- First Fundraiser of the Year: Candy Sale Begins
- Sunday, September 10th- 9:30AM Spirit Mass followed by the International Food Fair
- On Monday, September 25th there will be no extended care. We will be having a full safety evacuation and reunification drill that afternoon. More information will be coming home later this month.
Coupon Code Update:
I heard that the coupon code to our Spirit Wear Site was not working- I am so sorry this happened. I spoke to the company today who realized that they forgot to set the code to active. It works now so please go to our Panther Pride Store and use code 44-Faculty17 for 8% off your purchase.
Classroom Updates:
As we begin the new school year we want to thank you for all of your support. Thanks to our fundraising and generous donors we have been able to add the following items to the school:
- New English Language Arts (ELA) Series and Textbooks for all K-8 Classes
- 37 desktops for the Technology Center
- 4 mini iPads for the 1st Grade Classroom
- 1 SmartBoard for the 5th Grade Classroom
- New Junior High Desks for the 7A classroom (Coming in September!)
- 2 Apple TV's for the 1st and 2nd Grade Classrooms
Construction Update:
We are finishing up Phase 1 of our three phase seismic construction project. The boys and girls bathrooms look great! The handrails of the ramp will be installed tomorrow. The next couple of weeks we will be finishing up a few details so you will continue to see workers on campus. We did find out the next summer we will not be able to have summer school on campus. We will be looking into other options that we may be able to still offer- we will be sure to keep you informed.
New Picnic Tables:
This week we have added 8 picnic tables for our students to enjoy at recess and lunch. A big thank you to Our Lady of Angels School in Burlingame who donated these to Holy Name.
Extracurricular Activities: If you have not already done so, please sign your child up for the extracurricular activities of your choice by completing the online form or by returning the form that went home today.

Service Hour Opportunities:
Please see below for a list of upcoming service hour opportunities:
- Planning for the International Food Fair has begun! Please join us Thursday at 5PM for an initial planning meeting in the Art Room.
- As we continue to update our emergency plan, we would like to ask for donations for any large suitcases on wheels that you may no longer use (1 service hour for donation).
- Thursday, August 31st our Auction Committee will hold an informational/ planning meeting at 6:30PM in the Art Room. Pleas join as this is our biggest fundraiser, and we need help!
- Hot lunch volunteers are needed! Please see below for more information.
- Friday Recess and Lunch Supervisors. We are looking for two volunteers to assist with recess and lunch supervision on Fridays from 10:45-11AM and 12:40-1:10PM. If you are able to regularly help please send an email to [email protected].

A MESSAGE FROM FATHER ARNOLD
As I welcome all of you to this new school year, I also extend my best wishes and fervent prayers for you.

ATTENDANCE
When your child is absent please leave a message on the attendance line at (415) 731-3328, before 9:00 am. You can also request homework for your child at this number, and you may pick it up from Extended Care.
DISMISSAL TIME
Next Monday, August 28, is a 12:30 dismissal day. Please remember that every 4th Monday of the month is a 12:30 dismissal.
HOT LUNCH
The Hot Lunch program begins next Tuesday, August 29. Please sign up or update the information at SchoolFoodies.com. Our school code is
HNS. Volunteers are needed for 1 1/2 hours midday to help distribute the lunches in the cafeteria. If you can help while earning service hours please fill out the volunteer form your child brought home today.
SCHOOL PICTURES
All students will have their pictures taken next Thursday, August 24. Purchase is optional but your child's picture will be on the class photo. Order forms were distributed on the first day of school.

Holy Name has a Youth Ministry. The Youth Ministry's upcoming BBQ is this Sunday,
August 27th
, after the
9:30am
Mass. Activities and lunch will be in Flanagan Center and the gym. All junior high students and their parents are welcome! There is no fee for this event.

Boys who are on the 8-3 soccer team have practice tomorrow, Wednesday the 23rd, at South Sunset, Pitch 3 B, from 5:00 to 6:30.
