VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

Inland Empire SHRM currently has open board positions and volunteer opportunities if you are interested in contributing to chapter activities. In volunteering with your local SHRM chapter, you can earn up to 10 (PDC) recertification credits per year for advancing the HR profession.

All positions require active SHRM membership, and IE SHRM chapter designation. In addition, some positions may require that applicants are active human resource practitioners, with certain levels of HR experience due to the nature of the responsibilities.    Volunteer today .
EMERGING HUMAN RESOURCES PROFESSIONALS (aka Young Professionals)

As companies develop succession plans for their organization, affiliated SHRM chapters must also plan for the future.  Due to the changes in the economy and the Southern California job market, many new graduates and young professionals interested in the HR field find it difficult to secure a position in this area.  This is why it is important for the HR seasoned professionals to partner with the incoming "Emerging HR Professionals".  Learn more .
GET CERTIFIED
PHR/SPHR Class Sessions Start March 4, 2017

The Human Resources Certification Program (HRCP) course will be delivered by facilitators who are certified and experienced HR practitioners and subject-matter experts. Class time is supplemented with out-of-class readings and practice exams.

The six modules and materials are based on the 2017 HR Body of Knowledge.  Sign up today.
LEGAL UPDATE
Ban the Box
The Ban the Box coalition has been around since 2009, and primarily affected public sector and nonprofit entities. California enacted Assembly Bill No. 218, Ban the Box in 2013 for public sector employers. Today, many larger for-profit organizations have implemented public sector guidelines into their hiring practices.
So, what is Ban the Box? Simply put, it requires employers to consider a job candidate's qualifications first, without the stigma of a criminal record. Therefore, the box on employment applications asking applicants to indicate if they have any criminal convictions have been removed from the initial hiring process.  Learn more.
HAPPY NEW YEAR
Joey Kolasinsky, President
The new year has arrived and the hectic holiday season is behind us.  Most of us have been thinking about what 2017 will bring and what we will bring to 2017.......Do you want to move ahead, take a step back, seek new career opportunities, or take the time to become more competent and confident in your current role or area of expertise?
This year instead of making grand resolutions and setting aggressive goals, try to break down how you want to feel and plan accordingly.  If you want to be happier, take time to think about what happiness means to you.  Stopping to smell the roses?  Spending more quality time with family?  Too often we confuse productivity with happiness.  Doing more doesn't necessarily equate to more success or more happiness, however you define them.   Read more.
