School Closing Early Today
We have been closely monitoring the weather and the approaching storm. After reviewing information from MoDOT and consulting with our bus company, we are going to close school today, Friday, at 2:00 pm. Buses will take children home unless you make other arrangements. We realize the weather could change, but we felt it necessary to make a decision early in order to give parents time to make arrangements.
All tutoring, title I academic support, after-school activities, and YMCA also will be canceled as well as the Boy's and Girl's Club.
If you know that you will be changing your child's regular transportation plan on Friday, please let the school office know via a note or phone call as soon as possible.
Also, the MS assembly has been canceled and the Cherry Campus birthday parties will be rescheduled.

Thank You Parents
Dear AL families,
While sitting at the PTSO meeting Tuesday evening discussing EIP (An Evening in Paris), which by the way they are doing a wonderful job, I thought about how far this school has come. Many years ago when we first started a fundraising event, Mardi Gras (predecessor to EIP), it was started by a group of very hard working parents. I was reflecting on what the two events (EIP & Mardi Gras) had in common and it became obvious: the hard working parents making this enormous undertaking work to help the school, our children, and increase community involvement. We are fortunate to continue to have, year after year, groups of dedicated, supportive parents and families and owe you a tremendous debt for all that you do. We truly appreciate your hard work and we would like to thank you for all you do and continue to do for Académie Lafayette.
Stay safe this weekend,
Leslie Houfaidi
Oak Principal

Character Trait: Responsibility
Oak finished the 2016 year strong with R
esponsibility! We had another energetic Character Assembly last month as Coach Kumm, Coach Riffle, Coach Dougherty, Coach Moulaye, and Coach Dieng paid tribute to the cross country, volleyball and soccer team athletes. Great accomplishment to all the players and coaches! Our students have been focused on personal and social responsibilities. We discussed ways they can take accountability for their own actions and also make a difference in their school and community.

Académie
Lafayette for Oberlin High School in rural Jamaica is currently happening! Here are some of the needed items:
- Acetaminophen & Ibuprofen tablets
- band aids (the wide ones)
- multivitamins
- rubbing alcohol
- hydrogen peroxide
- antibiotic ointments
- hydrocortisone & anti fungal creams
- latex exam gloves
|
- hand sanitizers - elastic bandages - cold and flu tablets - Loratadine (Claritin) or other allergy tablets including chewables for the younger kids - toothpaste and toothbrushes - any school supplies and small toys
|
Also, the school nurses can buy any of the above items at cost. So if want your money to go further, you can write a check to
Académie

We have collection suitcases at both campuses until
January 24. Please be aware that children cannot bring medication to school, so parents will need to bring any of those items directly to the nurse. Anything you can do will be greatly appreciated by the students of Oberlin High School and the community in Jamaica.
