Only one week remains to share your comments on the Texas State Plan for the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA). The plan could lead to a series of significant changes for K-12 schools in Texas. The public comment period ends Aug. 29.

Each state is developing its plan for carrying out the ESSA law. States are required to involve and consult with parents on their state education plans. These plans should lead to improved academic outcomes and ensure that low-income and minority children are being taught by qualified, experienced teachers and are not subject to disproportionate disciplinary measures.

An overview of Texas plan is online.  Ideas and feedback should be submitted by email to: [email protected] .

We hope that organizations, families and individuals send their own responses to the Texas Education Commissioner on this plan. The community must voice its opinion of this plan.

The ESSA dollars are the federal investment in the children that need the most assistance and help from our schools. This money should be used with strong recommendations from our communities.

You can make your recommendations as small or big as you chose, but please let your opinions be recorded.

Pass this on to other families and groups. If someone you know doesn't have access to a computer and e-mail, ask someone who does to send their recommendations by e-mail to the Texas Education Agency.
