2016 is a recording breaking year for the BBVLP!
Thanks to the hundreds of attorneys who volunteered last year
the BBVLP closed more than 2,700 cases, which is up more than 400 cases than 2015, or a 20% increase. Below is a breakdown of each program:
Civil Help Desk
More than 1,100 people were seen at the Civil Help Desk, which is an increase of around 300 people. The majority, 240 clients, needed help because they were wrongly being evicted, their house was in danger of foreclosure, or they had unsafe living conditions.
Domestic Relations Help Desk
The BBVLP helped over 1,230 clients at the Domestic Relations Help Desk. Of those cases, almost 850 clients received help with a divorce, and
127 of those cases involved Domestic Violence victims.
The new
Homeless Help Desk
Some 180 clients were served, with 90 clients needing help reinstating licenses / ID's.
Pro Bono Patent Program
With a total of 45 application requests in 2016, the Patent Program helped more clients than ever.
Besides the Help Desks clients, volunteer attorneys closed over 360 full pro bono cases, which is up from 300 in 2015.
Even though the BBVLP had a record breaking year, we are more determined than ever before to helping more clients in 2017. If you are interested in signing up to volunteer at a Help Desk, please click
