Lexington MLK Day of Service: This year, the Town of Lexington commemorates Martin Luther King, Jr. Day with its 4th annual family-friendly day of volunteer activities supporting the under-served. Come lend a hand, it's fun and meaningful. This program is supported by LICA, the Lexington Interfaith Clergy Association , of which Temple Emunah is a member.

Before the Flood, Film and Discussion: Lexington Global Warming Action Committee and Mothers Out Front are sponsoring a film and discussion on Wed. January 18, 6:00 to 9:00 at Cary Library. Paul Neustadt, a member of our Temple Emunah Climate Action Committee, will be co-facilitating the discussion after the film.  The discussion will take place in small groups so that everyone has a chance to share their reactions to the film and its implications for what needs to happen.

Community Hevra Kadisha of Greater Boston: (CHK) is pleased to be offering another orientation to prepare people to be Taharot team members . Sisterhood Passover Fair Trade Chocolate is coming soon!  Our popular Passover fundraiser is back again for your enjoyment.  We are selling 4 different delicious organic bars, Dark Chocolate with Almond (55% Cacao), Dark Chocolate Orange (65% Cacao), Mint Chocolate (67% Cacao) and Very Dark Chocolate (71% Cacao). The chocolate bars are $4 each.  We are also selling 10 ounce bags of organic semi-sweet chocolate chips (55% Cacao). The chips are produced in a facility that does not process peanuts, tree nuts, milk, eggs, wheat and soy. The cost is $5 per bag.  Look for our table during the Purim Carnival on Sunday March 12th. Community Leadership Program in Israel: The Shalom Hartman Institute is now accepting applications for June 2017! For the past sixteen years the Shalom Hartman Institute has been hosting lay leaders from around the world to study texts with world-renowned scholars, learn about current Israeli policies and politics, and explore Israel. Each year, the Shalom Hartman Institute hosts over 150 lay leaders to study a specific topic.

#HartmanSummer 2017 will address some of the most significant challenges and questions facing modern Israel, reimagining the claims of our past, and imagining the possibilities for our future, through lectures, seminars, day trips, and special programs.

Community News - Around the Town

Mother's Out Front Meeting TONIGHT :  During these difficult times much of the progress we will make on environmental issues will occur on the local level. Learn about our campaign to reduce our carbon footprint and improve the health of our children and our planet.  This special evening will begin with a brief film, followed by a guided discussion. We will then offer practical ideas for making a difference for the environment in MA, in Lexington, and in your home.  Thursday, January 12, 7:00-9:00 PM, Lexington Community Center, 39 Marrett Road.

JCDS Information Sessions: JCDS, Boston's Jewish Community Day School, cultivates curious, passionate learners with the capacity and confidence to change the world. At our Sessions, you will meet with current JCDS parents and 8th grade students, tour JCDS classrooms, and engage in Q/A with our Educational Leadership Team. Solomon Shechter Group Visits: Group Visit Day for Students Entering Grades 2-8 on Wednesday, January 18, 2017 . Students entering grades 2-8 in Fall 2017 are invited to experience life at Schechter. Prospective students shadow a Schechter buddy, get a taste of classroom learning and meet new friends. See firsthand how Schechter's rigorous academic program ignites a spark in Judaism and love for Israel, nurtures self-discovery through an innovative curriculum and fosters a collaborative and joyful culture and community. Group Visit for Students Entering Grade 1 on  Wednesday, January 25, 2017, 8:30-9:30 AM.  Students entering grade 1 in Fall 2017 and their families are invited to a special morning led by Schechter's 1st-grade teaching team, designed to help us get to know your child. Prospective students participate in hands-on learning centers, activities and playtime.

SCHECHTER PALS (Preschoolers and Little Siblings) is a free, family-friendly series of programs of the Solomon Schechter Day School.
