Fourth Annual Guns N Hoses to Benefit Sean McDonald

Local law enforcement and firefighters/EMS are ready to do battle again for the 4th annual Guns N Hoses hockey game on Saturday, February 4th. Team Fire currently leads the series 2-1, with Team Police looking to even the series. To date, Grand Traverse Guns N Hoses has raised over $40,000 for families in need.

Doors open at 6 pm. The silent auction begins at 6 pm, pregame is at 6:30 and the puck drops at 7:00.  This event has grown each year and it is now one of the largest hockey events hosted at Centre Ice Arena.

The upcoming game will benefit Sean McDonald, 34, of Traverse City. Sean has recently been dia gnosed with non-small cell Stage 4 lung cancer. Sean is the sole provider for his family which consists of his wife and four daughters. Sean is unable to work and is currently undergoing treatment. Funds raised from this event will help to offset soaring medical and travel costs associated with his treatment.

Tickets are $5 and can be purchased in advance locally at any Traverse City State Bank branch, Bill Marsh Auto on South Garfield or Dave Harvey's Athletic Supply. Remaining tickets will be available at the door while supplies last. Limited edition T-shirts (red or Navy blue) can be purchased prior to the event at Bill Marsh Auto and Dave Harvey's Athletic Supply for $15 each beginning Friday, January 13th.

For more information on the event, please visit the Grand Traverse Guns N Hoses Facebook Page or Click Here to visit the web site. You can also visit the GoFundMe Page for more information or to make a donation.

Centre Ice, TC Community Remember Rick Deneweth

Centre Ice, Howe Arena and the community at large lost a friend on November 11, 2016 with the passing of Richard "Rick" A. Deneweth.

Along with being devoted to growing the local business community, Rick was an avid supporter of local hockey. Among many volunteer activities, he served as President of the Bay Reps Michigan High School Hockey team. He was known for his commitment to his family and community, generosity, strong work ethic, high moral integrity, professional excellence, and devotion to his Catholic faith. He espoused a deep love of his country and a commitment to veterans.

Rick is survived by his best friend and loving wife Connie, sons Raymond James (RJ) and Christopher, and brother, Ronald (Mary). Our thoughts and prayers are with his family.

A devoted husband, father, son, brother, uncle and friend, Rick touched countless lives and will be forever missed by his family, friends and associates.

Centre Ice Receives Additional $15,000 Rebate from Cherryland Electric
In 2016, Centre Ice Arena utilized the services of Keen Technical Solutions to install energy-efficient LED lighting in both David's and West Rinks at Centre Ice along with a new cooling tower. These changes not only enhanced the atmosphere and ice quality in each rink, but also reduced the arena's environmental impact while lowering operational expenses. The cost savings have been further enhanced with rebates provided by Cherryland Electric.

After reviewing electrical usage for the past three months, Cherryland has confirmed that the electrical usage at Centre Ice Arena is substantially lower as a result of the installation of the new cooling tower and LED lights. This finding has, according to Terry Marchand, I.C.E. Executive Director, "led Cherryland to give Centre Ice an additional $15,000 rebate on top of the previous $35,000 rebate. These rebate dollars - along with the energy savings - significantly help offset the expense of the project. Centre Ice is doing its part to constantly analyze our energy usage and to lower that usage whenever we can."

Athletes and visitors quickly recognized the improvements to rink lighting and ice quality these projects have produced. Centre Ice appreciates the efforts of Cherryland Electric and Keen Technical Solutions in making these significant and important changes possible!
