Humanitarian Response and Disaster Management Course
Spaces are still available in Dr. Carlo Salvinelli 's course on Humanitarian Response and Disaster Management this fall. The course is scheduled on Tues/Thurs at 12:30 to 1:45 pm has on campus and distance education sections (where students "attend" class from off-campus), and is available at graduate (CVEN 5837) and undergraduate (CVEN 4837) levels.
The course will give an overview of the main principles, standards, and key stakeholders involved in humanitarian response and will analyze the different phases of disaster and crisis management. For more details, see the

We are excited to announce that the 2017-2018 cohort will include 19 students, a couple of whom actually started at CU last January but who are just now starting the EDC certificate courses

WASH and Behavior Change
8 week course begins September 7, 2017
This course introduces the practices of incorporating behaviour strategies into WASH program design and delivery. It helps the participants to understand when behaviour change strategies should be integrated into WASH programs, and enables the use of practical tools to guide the integration of behaviour change into WASH programs. MSF "Footsteps of a Fieldworker" Tour

Presented by Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF), Forced From Home is a free, interactive, outdoor exhibition and guided tour designed to enhance visitors' understanding of the desperate plight of the more than 65 million displaced people worldwide. With an experienced MSF aid worker as their guide, visitors navigate an outdoor installation designed to convey some of the challenges faced by individuals forced to flee from Afghanistan, Burundi, Honduras, South Sudan, and Syria.

SPHERE Handbook Revision Workshop

The Sphere Handbook is one of the most widely known and internationally recognized sets of common principles and universal minimum standards in humanitarian response. This workshop, hosted by MCEDC, will provide a forum for humanitarian practitioners and academics to provide input for the 2018 revised Sphere Handbook and standards. Solar Decathlon 2017 in Denver
October 5-15, 2017
The Solar Decathlon is coming back to Denver and is seeking volunteers to help. The U.S. Department of Energy Solar Decathlon is a collegiate competition of 10 contests that challenge student teams to design and build full-size, solar-powered houses. The winner of the competition is the team that best blends design excellence and smart energy production with innovation, market potential, and energy and water efficiency. Check out the

Union of Concerned Scientists Accepting Proposals
The Union of Concerned Scientists Science Network is excited to announce a new grant program for science advocates: The Science for Public Good Fund. Science Network members can apply to the Fund for financial support of up to $1000, to be used for advocacy actions or related events to defend the role of science in public policy, with an emphasis on understanding and addressing local impacts. Applicants must be active UCS Science Network members (or must be willing to become members) at time of application. Read more on the

NSF Grad Research Fellowship Applications for 2018 Now Open

The purpose of the NSF Graduate Research Fellowship Program (GRFP) is to help ensure the vitality and diversity of the scientific and engineering workforce of the United States. The program recognizes and supports outstanding graduate students who are pursuing research-based master's and doctoral degrees in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) or in STEM education. The GRFP provides three years of support for the graduate education of individuals who have demonstrated their potential for significant research achievements in STEM or STEM education. NSF especially encourages women, members of underrepresented minority groups, persons with disabilities, veterans, and undergraduate seniors to apply. Check here for

WASH Technical Adviser for Save the Children in Nigeria
The WASH Advisor is based in Borno and is the lead technical adviser in medium to large scale emergencies. The advisor, with limited support, leads on sectoral assessment, programme design and provides technical advice to ensure quality programs. The advisor develops the sector strategy of the master budget. The advisor leads in technical coordination and supports fundraising, recruitment and procurement. The advisor plays a technical leadership role within the response team, ensuring WASH programs are of high quality and meet recognized standards. The advisor supports colleagues and works to ensure that broader sector coordination mechanisms are functioning effectively. The advisor mentors and builds the capacity of Save the Children and partners' staff. See
