Back-To-School Packets available!

Stella Maris Academy's "Back to School" packet was sent out via email to our families on August 11th. If you have not seen the email please call your campus office or email [email protected] .

If you would like a hard copy of the required forms, please stop into any campus office or contact the office secretary to have one mailed to your household. Hard copies will also be available at all "Welcome Back" events.
Transportation Information

How do I decide if I should use the bus that transports students from campus to campus, or use my home address for the pickup and drop off location?

Answer: Start with your home address. If your home address is the desired and safest place for drop off and pick up for  busing , you do not need to fill out the transportation request form. Currently, we are using this form to identify the number of families that desire to use one of our campuses as a pick up/drop location instead of their home address in order to help bus route planning. You have the ability to request a transportation change at any time during the year, even within the first week of school if the bus route from your home does not work for your family.

Additional information:  Transportation has created routes to offer families the ability to be picked up a one campus and be  bused  to the other campus.

In the morning:
  • Students attending St. John's and Holy Rosary campuses are routed on the same buses
  • Holy Rosary will serve as a hub for all AM routes
  • Students arriving at Holy Rosary will transfer to one of the two buses designated to depart Holy Rosary by 7:30 am, transferring students to St. John's
  • Students who request (on the form) to have Holy Rosary as their bus stop should be to Holy Rosary by 7:20 am
  • St. John's will function as an AM pick-up stop for Holy Rosary
In the afternoon:
  • Two buses will load at St. John's, transferring bus riders and students getting off at Holy Rosary
  • Bus riders will redistribute to their appropriate take-home bus
  • Holy Rosary students should be loaded onto buses after school before the arrival of students shuttling from St. John's
  • Buses will depart as soon as transfer of students is accomplished
  • St. John's school will serve as a drop-off stop after leaving Holy Rosary
Extra curricular  busing  information (a bus that leaves a campus later in the afternoon) will be shared with families once extracurricular programming is developed.  We are waiting on confirmation that a Marshall drop will also be included to transport any 8th graders to Marshall athletic programs.

A reminder that this is for all in district families who qualify for busing. We are still working with the district to identify ways families can be supported if they are out of district.

Stella Maris Academy Begins to Develop Athletics and Extracurricular Activities

Soccer is in full swing with lots of blue Sentinel jerseys all over the fields, a middle school cross country running team is being launched (see below) and the Stella Maris Martial Arts program will open for registration at the back to school events. We are excited to have Mr. Eric Cyr, Stella Maris Academy band director, religion teacher, and marathon runner extraordinaire, begin developing extra-curricular activities and athletics as part of a newly assigned position of Activities Director.

The desire for additional programming was evident in the feedback and planning for the future of Stella Maris Academy. Ideas included (but were not limited to) robotics, mountain biking club, basketball teams, competitive word study, geography bee, Destination Imagination, student council, and chess club. A structure is now in place for parents, teachers, and community members to develop programs based on their interest and their talents. If you know of (or are) a coach for a really cool club, activity, or team, fill out the extracurricular activity request form ( link here) and submit it to Mr. Cyr ( [email protected]) . He will support you in the process of getting it approved and active.

We are excited for extracurricular programming to grow and expand.
Go Sentinels!

Middle Schoolers are you ready to run?
Join Cross Country this fall at SMA!
Do you have a middle school student who wants to participate in an awesome fall sport? Stella Maris Academy is excited to announce that we are working on developing a cross country team for the Fall 2017 season. Cross Country racing is a great individual and team sport that challenges students to work hard, push themselves, and grow personally as well as within a team community. The first step in developing this program is to find out how many students on each campus are interested in participating. One thing to note: all middle school students are invited to participate, but only seventh and eighth graders are able to race in inter-school meets. If your middle schooler at the St. John's or St. James campus is interested, please fill out the interest form Feel free to contact Eric Cyr with any questions or concerns at [email protected]

FAQs
Questions we have been receiving from our SMA Families...

1) Can my St. John's student attend the Holy Rosary Extended Day program and vice versa?
The Extended Day programs for each campus will be tailored to the age range of that campus. The middle school Extended Day program at St. John's will be middle school oriented, while the Holy Rosary Extended Day program will be geared toward K-4th graders. St. James Extended Day will have components for both younger and older students.

2) Are light-weight performance style polo shirts acceptable as new uniform wear?
We are not specific on fabric blend, however, the approved new uniform does not allow the thinner performance material at this time. There is a lot of color variation in the thinner performance fabrics, so as we transition to the new uniform we have stayed away from that shirt style.  Adjustments to styles, vendors and fabrics may be made in the future based upon the parent feedback in this transition year.

3) Who do I call or contact if I have questions regarding SMART tuition?
Please contact our SMART Tuition Coordinator, Sam Laveau at
218-624-1511 or [email protected].
