MAME 42 IS RIGHT AROUND THE CORNER
Congratulations to all of our finalists
By Andy Davidson, Chair, North State BIA
The Academy Awards. The ESPY's. Great awards shows, featuring the achievements of Hollywood celebrities and sports figures. But do you know what those events don't have? Us. Our industry. That's why MAME 42 is really the only awards show that any of us should be paying attention to.

MAME is the homebuilding industry's annual awards show, highlighting the best, brightest, and most innovative individuals, products, and communities in the greater Sacramento region. If you missed it, we actually just sent out the list of this year's finalists and it is impressive, to say the least.

This year's awards show is on Friday, September 15 at 5:30 p.m., at the Sheraton Grand in Sacramento. I would like to encourage as many BIA members as possible to attend, because this is a celebration of all the great work we do collectively. Oh and you'll also want to see our celebrity emcee, Mark S. Allen, who will be bringing his own version of Hollywood to MAME 42!

So, please think about it, but not for too long, because this event fills up fast. You can register here . Also, if you would like to sign up as a sponsor (see current sponsor list here) of MAME 42, please have a look at our sponsorship form .

I hope to see you there.

Placer BDC Recap
Kathy Pease and Mike Isom from the City of Roseville discussed the city's efforts to reach out to the public for guidance on how to manage significant projected budget shortfalls of up to $13 million a year. They discussed the recently-formed Community Priority Advisory Committee (aka Engage Roseville). This committee will meet through March 2018 and each session will focus on one of the five General Fund departments. The committee will be asked to reach a consensus in their recommendations about service reductions that should be considered over the next five years. Their presentation is available here.

El Dorado County Measure E Update
Our guest speaker for the August El Dorado Builder/Developer Council was Jim Brunello, an attorney with the El Dorado County Alliance for Responsible Planning (EDCARP), which filed a successful lawsuit overturning Measure E because it imposed unconstitutional and unfair exactions on new development. This decision will restore underlying General Plan policies from voter-approved Measure Y that requires new development to pay TIM fees to mitigate traffic impacts. For more information and to read the full decision, please click here.

Placer Affordable Housing Latest
The Placer County Board of Supervisors has been considering a new fee on development for affordable housing but voted to direct staff to focus exploring other options first, such as identifying sites that might be appropriate for affordable housing, other funding sources, and streamlining options. The county released this summary of the discussion shortly after that meeting.

We have an amazing 80  teams participating in Friday's day long event to take a shot at ending homelessness. Of course, we could not have gotten there without the tremendous effort put forth by our wonderful  14th Annual Trap Shoot Committee (pictured above). And many thanks to the terrific volunteers who have signed up to help make our event the best possible experience for participants.

Each year, HomeAid is also lucky to have the most generous vendors helping to make the Trap Shoot a rousing success...and this year is no different. So, thank you to this year's vendors:

5Kin5 Initiative Achieves Significant Results in Just its First Year
The North State Building Industry Foundation is happy to announce the first year results of the 5kin5 Initiative, an effort to bring 5,000 new workers into our industry in 5 years. It was the biggest undertaking in the 16-17 program year and we are excited to share the results with you. Thanks to an amazing group of industry leaders, sponsors and partners - with all your support, year one saw over 1200 people hired! Click here for the full report.
All Things OSY
Last year our Out of School Youth (OSY) Program successfully graduated 23 youth from the program. OSY is a year-long program, which works with 18-24-year-old at-risk youth. Many of the youth served by the program are high school dropouts, young and single parents, and have no work experience to speak of. Through activities like weekly skill-building workshops, work-based learning opportunities, volunteering, and on-the-job training the youth prepare to become responsible citizens and employees. This year we will have 25 youth enrolled in the program. Find out how you can get involved here.

Foundation Seeking Support Staff
The North State Building Industry Foundation is in the process of searching for qualified candidates for a part-time administrative assistant position. The job description can be found here. For questions, please contact Elizabeth Goldsmith.
