  ,

Happy New Year to all! We said goodbye to 2016, and we should all take on 2017 with positivity and a promise to not only do better for ourselves
but for our beloved pets. Most of us have come across stray dogs, so we'll  discuss what to do if you see one so that you can help. We'll also talk about whether it is a good idea to keep dogs inside or out. There's been a lot said about the topic of declawing cats, so we'll give you the scoop on that controversial topic. All the information is right here in this month's Pet Tips and Treats newsletter, which is filled with valuable information. Remember to watch for our periodic special discount "treat" just for you and your pet to enjoy. Don't forget to share the love and send our newsletter to others who also cherish their pets.

If You See a Stray Dog, Here's How to Help

It happens to so many of us: You see a stray dog in the street or side of the road and you want to help but are unsure of what to do without scaring the dog or having him or her run into traffic.

According to " How to Help a Stray Pet " from The Humane Society of the United States (HSUS), whatever you do, don't get into an accident so safely pull off to the side of the road. Here are tips from the HSUS:

Declawing Your Cat: The Pros and Cons

There is a lot of controversy on the subject of declawing cats. There are some countries that have actually banned the practice, considering it to be inhumane.

Employee Spotlight:
Taylor Wilbur, guest services attendant

Rescuing animals is a family affair for Taylor Wilbur. As a child, her family rescued animals including dogs, cats, hummingbirds and even pigeons. It led her to work with animals, which she has been doing for six years.

As a Guest Service Attendant at Second Home where she started in May, Taylor does everything from activities, feeding and doggy day care to cleaning, customer interaction and cuddle time. Taylor also ensures clients that their pets are well cared for while they are at Second Home.

"I love the work environment and appreciate my coworkers," Taylor said. "Everyone has respect for each other and helps each other out." Fun is built into the job given its nature, but Taylor appreciates her coworkers who she says are "awesome."

When Taylor first started working at the resort she was pleasantly surprised to find out that "cuddle time" was part of the job. "I really enjoy that we get extra time with the animals," she said.

Taylor respects that owners Cheryl and Roger Naumann also "take time out of their day and help to catch stray animals" and admire their commitment to the rescue community.

Employees at Second Home are not just a number. "They go the extra mile to make sure the staff is happy," Taylor said. "I think I got very lucky landing this job."
