Thank you for a milestone year!
Moving forward on our vision, because Green Buildings Are Better
By Nick Bristow, 2017 USGBC-Missouri Gateway Chapter Board Chair
As 2016 comes to a close, we are also completing the Chapter's 15th anniversary.
Our Chapter's stated vision is to create and restore buildings and communities that will regenerate and sustain the health and vitality of all life within a generation. We can be very proud of what we have accomplished and it is upon this success that we can continue to move toward our goal.  We look forward to the next 15 years as we ponder a generation of green building.  I give a big thanks to every member and volunteer, without your dedication and support it would be impossible to see our vision through.

I am particularly excited about some of the newest developments.

Benchmarking.  Several years ago our chapter started the 25x20 Energy Benchmarking Campaign, encouraging building owners and managers to pledge to benchmark their building energy use.  A growing number of organizations are participating, saving energy, and meeting their energy savings goals. This has been an excellent model of how benchmarking can work, and we look for  St. Louis to build upon this success with the implementation of the City Energy Project.  With this initiative, St. Louis plans to join our peers in other leading cities such as Kansas City, Chicago, and Minneapolis to support benchmarking  in our region .

Building Wellness.  One of the newest movements in green building centers around wellness in the work place. The Well Building Standard's goals are a healthier and happier working environment. The Chapter will be showcasing projects in the area pursuing WELL Building Certification, providing live training for people choosing to pursue a WELL Building credential, and be the network for those who want to do more.

LEED v4. The latest version of the LEED Rating System is now in full effect. This is a large step in a positive direction that has made significant strides in energy efficiency and building material disclosure.  We can rely upon on our Chapter's expertise and guidance to support the Certification of more LEED buildings.

I am proud to be part of this Chapter, all the work we have done, and all the work we can do.  We were one of the first six USGBC chapters and, thanks to you, are one of the strongest chapters in the network. We cannot continue to succeed without your support, time, and contributions. I ask you to consider making a year-end contribution to our Chapter in any personally meaningful amount so we can continue to do great, green things.

Thank you,
