Light Shabbat candles at 5:12 p.m.

Rabbi Sharfman
RABBI SHARFMAN'S
WEEKLY MESSAGE
and CANDLE LIGHTING REMINDER

Our Torah portion for this week is Mikeytz in which Joseph is released from prison in order to interpret dreams for Pharaoh. He is appointed as a viceroy in Egypt, responsible for stockpiling and rationing in preparation for the impending famine.

A kavannah/intention upon lighting the candles for Shabbat Mikeytz

(First light the Chanukah candles, then the Shabbat candles; tomorrow night, end Shabbat with Havdalah, then light the Chanukah candles. The Chanukah candles are placed in the window, symbolizing boldness, courage, the imperative to speak up for justice and our desire to transform the world from darkness to light; the Shabbat candles are lit privately, symbolizing peace and harmony in the home. They are the foundation.)

Adonai, please give me the courage to do my part in bringing light to those dark places and allow me to be renewed by the glow of these Shabbat candles, bringing light to my soul and peace to my home.

Chag Urim Sameach and Shabbat Shalom...a beautiful Chanukah....filled with blessing and light,

Rabbi Bonnie Sharfman
