The North American International Auto Show is already underway in Detroit, and the Canadian show is fast approaching. Keep an eye out for our newsletters, because we'll be bringing you the best highlights. For now, we've included a list of some of 2017's most anticipated vehicles to preview some of what we can expect from auto makers this year.

Meanwhile, Canadian Volkswagen owners are finally getting news about a settlement for the diesel scandal. We have all the details on the potential compensation below. Plus, we're also featuring new studies that show most women aren't satisfied with their options when shopping for a new vehicle. So how can manufacturers appeal to more women?

We hope you enjoy the information and will call us at (416)-609-2125 with any questions or needs that you may have regarding your next vehicle.

Stay Safe with these Winter Driving Tips
A good driver reacts to road situations and tries to deal with them as they happen. A great driver knows how to anticipate problems, avoiding them altogether with planning and defensive driving. And living in Canada, of course, means doing all of this in the snow. Here's what you can do to stay safe.

Make Sure You Can See

If you can't remember the last time you replaced your windshield wipers, then it is definitely time for new ones. Try wiper blades specifically designed for winter driving, make sure your windshield washer system works, and that it's full of winter-rated fluid.

Make Sure You Can Be Seen

You've seen it: a car laden by snow and ice, with barely any cleared spots on the windshield for visibility. Don't be that person. Budget a few extra minutes to clean your car properly and make sure you have your snow brush and scraper handy. And don't forget to clear your head- and taillights. Snow is not transparent, so lights covered with snow won't be visible to other drivers.

AWD Doesn't Absolve All Sins

Yes, AWD provides forward traction, gets you moving in deep snow, and can help prevent fishtailing. But it doesn't take the place of winter tires, nor will it help you if you drive too fast, brake too late, or make abrupt lane changes.

Catch that Slide

If you do lose traction, you need to know how to straighten out your vehicle if you get stuck in a skid. Many vehicles are front-wheel driver or have a front-drive bias, meaning that most people will find themselves in a situation where the front tires of their vehicle have lost traction. Look where you want to go while gently guiding the steering wheel towards your desired path. Being aggressive at the wheel or on the brakes will only make things worse.

What Women Want in a Car
If there is a perfect recipe for the vehicle that will win over female drivers, it starts with the sleek body of a sport utility vehicle.  Inside, it calls for seats clad in leather, plenty of personal storage with dedicated sports for a cellphone and handbag. Visibility needs to be a perfect 360 degrees, and the driver's seat, pedals, and steering wheel all must be adjustable. And women want infotainment that works well , so add an integrated touch screen that is just as responsive as an iPad.

Female drivers make up the coveted market all automakers are looking to grow their share of. And for them, it's what inside a vehicle that counts the most. New research from global consulting firm, Frost & Sullivan, shows that women are deeply dissatisfied with the interior designs of the vehicle options. While they're generally happy with the safety features and manoeuvrability of their options, women aren't finding what they need in the cabin.

A recent European survey showed that one in five female respondents would prefer a vehicle made specifically for them. Two-thirds of those women would be content if they could personalize options like door sensors, rear lifts, and other auto-assist features.

Auto Sales Hit 2016 Record but Seen Skidding in 2017
Canadians and Americans drove automakers to a record year in sales for 2016. Canadian sales hit a record for the fourth year in a row, with 1.95 million vehicles sold.

But, the era of rapid growth is over.

The industry is entering 2017 with analysts projecting the first significant decline in eight years -- a drop of 200,000 vehicles, about the equivalent of one factory's production -- to 17. 3 million cars and light trucks. While top-earning consumers will continue to splurge on luxury vehicles loaded with high-tech features, analysts say higher expenses are working against less well-heeled buyers.

However, the expected decline is modest, and explained in part due to the value of the Canadian dollar and higher interest rates.

Most auto makers will reveal their 2017 forecasts later this month. The average estimate in a Bloomberg survey of analysts has risen to 17.3 million cars and light trucks from a 17.2-million average in November.

2017 Audi A4

While the automotive market moves toward crossovers of every size, shape, and sporting intent, the sedan is not yet forgotten or ignored, especially in the luxury bracket.

And for decades now, the BMW 3 Series has dominated the entry-level luxury sedan market, while the Mercedes-Benz's S-Class was the clear luxury standard at the flagship end. Audi has steadily crept into the conversation as a top-tier luxury brand with steadily improving dynamics, unparalleled interior quality, and a reputation for easily accessible technology.

The 2017 A4 easily competes with the BMW and Mercedes-Benz's equivalents.

Audi completely redesigned the A4 for 2017, but changes to features like the headlights, taillights, and grille are subtle. It's also slightly longer and wider, but some models shed as much as 100 lbs.

The four-cylinder turbo is smooth and slick, with 252 horsepower and 273 lb-ft of torque, making it good enough to get to go from 0 to 100 km/h in six seconds flat.

Some notable stand features on the Premium line include: 17-inch wheels, xenon headlights, rearview camera, power front seats, Android Auto/Apple CarPlay, and a couple of USB ports.

Volkswagen Settles Diesel Lawsuit for up to $2.1 billion
Canadian owners of diesel-equipped vehicles made by Volkswagen AG will share up to $2.1 billion in compensation and be able to sell their cars back to the auto maker under a proposed settlement of the class-action lawsuit.

About 105,000 Canadians who bought Volkswagen or Audi vehicles equipped with 2.0-litre diesel engines between 2009 and 2015 will receive $5,100 to $8,000 in compensation.

Those who decide to sell their vehicles back to Volkswagen Canada Inc. will receive such a payment on top of the value of their car or crossover on Sept. 18, 2015.

Owners can also trade their vehicles or opt to have them repaired.

No money will be paid out or vehicles purchased until the Ontario Superior Court and the Superior Court of Quebec issue final approval of the settlement, which is expected to happen in March 2017.

But it could take years for the federal government to complete their investigation into Volkswagen AG, and environmental officials still can't say if the company did anything wrong -- even though the German company has already admitted to the scandal. This means it's still unclear if Volkswagen officials will face penalties under the Canadian Environmental Protection Act.

Ten Cars to Look Forward to in 2017

2016 was a pretty great year for cars, but 2017 could be even better. AutoGuide.com has picked 10 cars to be excited for in the coming year.

Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio

Although the Alfa Romeo Quadrifoglio first debuted in 2015, it won't actually be produced until this year. With the sport sedan's luscious styling and 505 horsepower, it will be interesting to see how it performs against others in its segment.

Audi RS3 Sedan

Sporting a 2.5-litre turbocharged five-cylinder engine with 400 hp and 354 lb-ft of torque, Audi's intriguing new sedan will arrive in U.S. by summertime.

Chevrolet Colorado ZR2

If you're a truck fan, the ZR2 should be on your radar. It should be a well-rounded off-roader that is capable of tight rock crawling and desert running.

Ford GT

Final specs for the the car haven't been announced, production limited to just 500 units for the next two years, and with a rumoured price of around $450,000, the Ford GT will be one of 2017's most elusive vehicles.

Honda Civic Type R

The Civic Type R will be brought overseas for the first time ever, and from a look at the prototype, the six-speed manual transmission and front-wheel drive should bring fun driving dynamics.

Hyundai i30N

Hyundai could use a bit more excitement int their lineup, and it looks like the 380-hp hatchback will do just that.

Jeep Compass

Jeep claims the new Compass will deliver best-in-class 4x4 off-road capability, advanced fuel-efficient powertrains, premium  and authentic design, and a host of safety and advanced technology offerings. We'll see if the crossover delivers on Jeep's promises when it arrives in early 2017.

Subaru BRZ STI

The automaker confirmed in 2015 that the BRZ STI will arrive in "a couple of years," so 2017 could be the year -- maybe. But recently, there have been reports that the future of the model is up in the air.

Toyota Camry

America's best-selling car is getting an all-new model and Toyota is hinting it will be aggressive in design. It will be interesting to see the Camry's new look.

Toyota Supra

First teased as a concept in 2014, the new Supra is a collaboration between BMW and Toyota, which seems like a great partnership.
