DALLAS, JANUARY 11, 2017
--
On Saturday, January 13 and 14, 2017, thousands of North Texans will gather together to pray and witness to the inhumane loss of over 58 million unborn children since the 1973 U.S. Supreme Court decision Roe v. Wade.
The weekend of events will begin with concurrent Masses celebrated on
Friday, January 13, at 7:00 p.m. by Bishop Greg Kelly at St. Monica Catholic Church in Dallas and Pastor Jes
ús Belmontes at nearby San Juan Diego Catholic Church. Over 2,000 are expected to attend.
Bishop Greg Kelly of the Diocese of Dallas described the event as "especially important in the wake of the 2016 decision by the U.S. Supreme Court re-affirming the tragedy of Roe v. Wade and striking down pro-life protections passed in Texas." In his letter of invitation, he urges families and youth in particular to join him for these two days of prayer and witness, noting that the "presence and participation of our ... families are one of the most compelling testimonies to the gift of life."
The events will continue on Saturday, January 14 with ecumenical prayer vigils, a youth rally, and the annual North Texas March for Life and Rally. This year's March and Rally will feature religious, community and student leaders, such as Jillian Ferguson of Students for Life of America. Jillian was inspired to become more active in the pro-life movement because she believes abortion harms women and she wants to do whatever she can to stand up for women's rights as well as the rights of the whole, distinct, and beautiful preborn.
