This Weekend at Hope:  New Sermon Series!
Here We Stand: A 10-Week Confirmation Refresher
How 1 Priest with 95 Theses Changed the World | Romans 3:21-28
"Fore!" - Heads up, Hope.

The word fore is typically shouted by a golfer when a golf ball exits its intended path and veers in the direction of an individual or crowd unaware of the danger headed in that direction. With the Solheim Cup just down the road and over 200,000 spectators in Des Moines for the event, it got me thinking about the ways the Bible helps inform us on how to move in a variety of ways. Like how our lives can impact the world and others around us. There is so much potential in the church, both locally and globally, but what ways can we wake up and alert others to the lifesaving message of Jesus Christ? How can we reach those who are still unaware or skeptical of these teachings?

It's hard to believe that nearly 500 years ago (this October!), Martin Luther made a stand that created a radical re-examination of how the church should help others in knowing God's truth, grace and love. This written protest, 95 Theses, became a vocal cry and movement that alerted people to God's truths, encouraged individuals to build a personal relationship with Christ, and challenged people on how to live out their faith both personally and in community.

This weekend, I invite you to worship with us as we kick off a new sermon series Here We Stand: A 10-Week Confirmation Refresher. I'm excited to share a message with you as we worship at one service at 10:00 am, (nursery provided for children up to age 3) for our Back-to School Celebration on the south lawn. Come as you are and bring your lawn chairs or blankets for a wonderful service, followed by BBQ, inflatables and yard games.

And, a couple more things to highlight... First, all men and sons are welcome tonight starting at 6:00 pm for Wings 2017. Come meet other men from the community, learn about opportunities this fall, and chow on some great wings. Secondly, all class registrations are open for HopeKids starting Sept. 9 & 10, PowerLife (grades 6-8), Ignition (grades 9-12) and both men's and women's classes. Thirdly, please help spread the word about our new worship service on Saturdays starting Sept. 9 at 5:00 pm. This service encourages families to worship together, then after the children's message, kids will have an opportunity to join HopeKids.

There's so much more, but I have to stop. Get excited!
