" I t's important to  show   that we can all come together and demonstrate that we value every member of our community,"  he said. " Going forward, w e're all going to have to work together to build the kind of community we  aspire to ."

To participate on Monday:

Resources to Support DPS' Shared Core Values Week Jan. 16-20
As we approach the inauguration on Jan. 20, we know many of our students will look for opportunities to discuss what's occurring and to voice their opinions. As educators, we want to leverage this interest and enthusiasm with meaningful ways to engage in current events.

The week of Jan. 16-20, DPS is encouraging schools to incorporate existing instruction or plan new events and activities around our DPS Shared Core Values each day of the week. Of course, we encourage you to incorporate our Shared Core Value of Fun in all activities:
  • Monday, Jan. 16 -- Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day -- Equity. While schools will be closed in observance of the holiday, we encourage discussion of this day in concert with our Shared Core Value of Equity.
  • Tuesday, Jan. 17 -- Integrity
  • Wednesday, Jan. 18 -- Collaboration
  • Thursday, Jan. 19 -- Accountability
  • Friday, Jan. 20 -- Inauguration Day -- Students First
To support you, we have compiled a collection of resources by Shared Core Value, grade level and complexity of activity in this spreadsheet.

We encourage you to share how your school and students are participating in Values Week here, and by using the hashtags #teamDPS, #DPSvalues and #StudentsFirst in social media posts.
Encourage Students to Sign up for FREE SAT Preparation Course
As a participant in the national "All in Challenge ," DPS is proud to offer the official SAT practice course through Khan Academy FREE beginning this week. This prep course gives students access to practice questions, test-taking strategies, a tailored study plan and constant feedback to ensure they are confident and perform their best on test day.

Please encourage your students to start training for the SAT by linking their College Board account at SATpractice.org. The Office of College and Career Readiness will run a report every other week through April to track each school's participation in the campaign.  If you have any questions, please contact Joanna Lilley .
Student Submissions Wanted for the Elementary Poetry Anthology
Please encourage your students in grades K-5 to submit poems and artwork to be featured in a professionally published book. As we work to support our early literacy goals, this project aims to illustrate for students the power of the written word and to allow them to explore ways to express themselves while emphasizing the importance of literacy skills. The book will be distributed for free to participating students and their teachers in May. For more information, please visit the Wikisite or contact Steve Replogle.

Reminder: Mid-Year Literacy Body of Evidence
To support regular progress monitoring and to inform early literacy instruction, DPS has set the expectation that teachers collect a full Literacy Body of Evidence three times throughout the school year for all K-3 students. The mid-year window is open now through Feb. 17. The mid-year and spring body of evidence includes:
  • READ Act assessment
  • Running/reading record
  • Written response to complex text
READ Act assessment data is automatically entered when students take the assessment. Running/reading records and written responses should be collected at the classroom/school level using whichever system the school has decided upon to help inform data analysis and instructional next steps. Further information on the K-3 Literacy Body of Evidence (BOE), including running record and written response optional tools and resources, can be found on the Early Literacy BOE website.
