ANNUAL 2016 AUCTION & STEAK DINNER FUNDRAISER

Friday, August 12, 6:00 p.m. is the date and time for this year's event. The top prize is a 2015 Chrysler 200 LX, donated in part by Liberty-Dayton Chrysler/Jeep/Eagle/Ram in Liberty, with eleven other top prizes available to win. There will be a pit-cooked steak dinner with all the trimmings to enjoy while everyone bids on the live, silent and Chinese auctions.

Tickets are on sale now at $100 each, available from the Chamber offices or any Chamber Board of Director. Each ticket is your entry into the drawing for the top 12 prizes and entitles you to the steak dinner as well.

Here are a couple of resources to help with locating destinations for summertime recreation:

Find everything you need to know about boating, fishing, hunting, camping and a host of other activities in our great state from the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department online.

If you're interested in places closer to the coast, Texas Coasts is a web-based app to help vacationers find the perfect beach, picnic park, or RV park for their next outing. It allows users to sort by multiple filters to find the perfect spot. txcoasts.com.

The Southeast Texas Cooperative for Special Services provides administrative help for students who are qualified for special education. Students in the program receive on-the-job experience from participating businesses, learning such responsibilities as following workplace rules, exhibiting social skills behaviors appropriate for the work environment, demonstrating the ability to take ownership in the job search process, and demonstrating acceptable performance on the job and in the classroom.

Businesses who hire the students receive community recognition.

Some of the goals of the cooperative employment experience include ensuring student growth and development by identifying and developing job opportunities and related academic skills; promoting high quality instruction in the areas of vocational, employability and independent living skills; increase student and family awareness of services available from community and educational agencies after graduation; and to promote positive public relations by networking with local businesses and community leaders. Area school districts who are members of the Southeast Texas Cooperative for Special Services include Anahuac, Cleveland, Devers, Hardin, Hull-Daisetta, Liberty, Splendora and Tarkington.
