Under the amended Denver Building and Fire Code (DBC), all single-occupant, family or assisted-use restrooms in Denver must have signage indicating that they are open for use to all persons, regardless of gender. This applies to both new and existing restrooms.

On December 19, City Council approved a set of DBC amendments written to resolve errors, improve clarity, add the requirement for gender-neutral signage on single-stall restrooms, and add Section 305 of the International Swimming Pool and Spa Code back in as an appendix to the International Building Code and International Residential Code.
