Let's get to work!
Labor Day is over. School is in full swing again. That "laid back" kind of life style that some of us were able to enjoy, and the pleasure of summer days outside without jackets or coats is officially over. Yes, some of the warm weather remains for a little while, but there's no denying it, we are back to work in every sense of the word. We are beginning to feel that familiar "nip of fall in the air." So now, let's take a refreshed view of life and get those new ideas percolating.

As you roll up your sleeves and plan your fall and winter calendars, please consider some of the mission-driven events that our District has to offer. Who knows what you might come away with--even one small idea can start something really big. It may not even be the presenter. It could be a conversation with the person sitting next to you. It happens all the time!

Give me a call if you'd like to get connected to one of our mission partners, or if you need some more information about one of the items below.

How to Reach the Unchurched
A two-day seminar designed for congregation teams (pastor plus 2-5 key leaders)

Churches planting churches is a key to reaching the unchurched or dechurched in a community. Church consultants Lyle Schaller, George Bullard, Bill Easum and Peter Wagner all agree that the new church is the most effective means of reaching those who have become detached from the church or have never been attached to a church. That's why the Center for U.S. Missions, together with Dynamic Church Planting International, has developed this seminar.

Congregations of all sizes will benefit from this refreshing and hope-filled seminar that approaches churches planting churches from a biblical and practical point of view. Explore planting strategies, the advantage of planting, when to plant, the process of daughtering, mother-daughter relationships and more!

Here are two opportunities to attend the Center for U.S. Missions' "Churches Planting Churches" (CPC) seminar, and they are coming up real soon! They are not held in our District, but are relatively close to some of us
and
offered to our District at no cost to you! (Except travel and lodging.)

There is a simple online registration form you can use for either one of these locations.
Remember--there is no registration cost for our SWD attendees!

On September 16-17 - This seminar will be held at Hosanna Lutheran Church in Mankato, MN (MNS District) .  Register online or use the contact information on this flyer.

On October 7-8 -
This same seminar will be held at Beautiful Lutheran Church in Plover, WI ( NWD). This one is definitely doable for most SWD congregations. Register online or use the contact information on this flyer .
"The Disturbances" -- a film that recalls missionaries in action!

"The Disturbances,"
is a feature-length documentary that chronicles the role that Christian missionaries played saving lives in Nigeria in 1966. Christian missionaries of various denominations, including many of our own LCMS missionaries, were working in the country when tribal killing followed military coups.

Missionaries from the LCMS played a key role in ministering to the people of Nigeria during this internal crisis. This is the first time Lutherans will have the opportunity to witness what happened on the Nigerian mission field 50 years ago.

Carl Eisman, retired principal of Martin Luther High School, was one of those LCMS missionaries who served there in the mid-60s. He helped to narrate this film that will be screened on October 24 at Hales Corners Lutheran, 12300 W. Janesville Rd., Hales Corners, WI 53130 from 7:00-9:00 p.m. You are invited to attend, and bring your family and friends!

BRIDGES of friendship in Christ

Bessie Fick is the International Student Ministry (ISM) Coordinator at Luther Memorial Chapel and University Student Center, Shorewood.
While many ministries were taking a summer break, Bessie was busy! She writes...

"Attached please find the ISM Summer Newsletter. We are so thankful for your prayers and financial support. God is blessing the work among the internationals.  This year we had 210 attend Bible studies and we rejoice that the Holy Spirit has brought six of the internationals to the waters of Baptism."
YOUR turn to be the missionaries!
Please share this with M.D.s, P.A.s and R.N.s whom you know or are members of your congregation!

Over the last couple of months I have been including information about a short-term mission trip in the making for spring 2017. I am told that there are volunteers ready to go, but we need a medical doctor or two to come along. If you know of a doctor who would be open to such an opportunity, please contact Carol Claybaker ASAP at c904c@hotmail.com, or give me a call at 414-292-0744.
