August 18, 2017

Tonight, let's join together to show our love for our Jewish neighbors.

This week I just happened to have coffee scheduled with Rabbi Mike Rothbaum, the new rabbi at Congregation Beth Elohim in Acton.  After a week that included the marching of neo-Nazis in Charlottesville and vandalizing of the Boston Holocaust Memorial, he shared that his congregation is feeling anxious and unsure.  I asked how we at UCCB could help; not just because we all want to show support, but because Christian text, tradition and history have fostered anti-Semitism.  As people within the Christian tradition, then, it is imperative that we raise our voices against this hatred.

Our neighbors at Congregation Beth Elohim are gathering this evening (Friday) to share their feelings and concerns with each other.  Following Rabbi Mike's suggestion, we have the opportunity to greet them with hugs and signs as they arrive for that conversation, standing with them figuratively and literally.  If you'd like to join in, show up at Beth Elohim (133 Prospect St. Acton) this evening at 6:15 with a sign ("We love you."  "We stand with you."  Etc.)  We won't be staying for the conversation so the community can speak freely (we are invited to come back for their regular worship at 7:30) so this is a quick way to show love!   Please do not post this on Facebook or other social media.  I do not want to make Cong. Beth Elohim a target for online trolls.  Any questions, please contact me at

Peace,

Rev. Cindy

P.S.  Several people have asked me if there is a UCCB group going to any of the rallies around our state tomorrow.  Nothing has been organized within the congregation, but I'm planning on attending this one:   https://www.facebook.com/events/165697793990647/  Please know that there are many ways to stand for love and work for justice.  Do what works for you.  And all of us can pray.

Worship

Sunday, August 20, 9:30 am

This Sunday we continue to reflect on what the words Jesus says might teach us about communication.  This Sunday's story looks like an example of "what not to say" as Jesus employs name-calling and insults.  Let's see what else we can learn.

Children are invited to come check out our new kid-friendly area in the sanctuary!  Nursery care is also available in the Vestry.

Sermons     Worship Bulletins

Spiritual Nurture

Kids, come check out the tables, chairs and supplies just for you in the sanctuary!  We welcome your presence in worship.  Nursery care is available in the Vestry for those who prefer hanging out down there.

Fresh Air And Fellowship

Saturdays, 10:00 am

Want to experience some fresh air and fellowship? Saturday mornings are a great time!

Let's meet at 10:00 at UCCB for a walk - destination/distance unknown!

The walk will be customized depending upon who joins. Perhaps down Middle Road and then crossing into Steele Farm (if we have some good Boxborough guides!) or perhaps a loop on the roads. We'll be flexible and welcoming to all!   Please bring your own water bottle. If the organizers are organized (no guarantees!), there may be refreshments at the church for before / after.

Please feel free to personally invite family, friends, and neighbors to join.

The more, the merrier!
