God-Centered Decision-Making 

In this very practical two part seminar, participants will actively engage in a decision-making framework that integrates    

• The spiritual discipline of listening to God and others
• A structured effective process that prevents conflict
• Facilitation tools to enhance listening.

Facilitator

Sherill Hostetter, CCC Program Director, is the faciliitator for this seminar. Sherill has an extensive background in assisting individuals, leaders and congregations. She served as co-pastor with her husband for a total of 15 years. As a consultant with Advocates for Congregational Health she worked with congregations experiencing conflict, leading change, re-envisioning their mission, understanding and embracing their diversity, and congregations in a spiritual discernment process.

The "Why" and the "What"...

When faced with having to make a difficult decision, how does a group access the wisdom and guidance of the Holy Spirit? How does a congregation learn to trust that the Holy Spirit may be speaking through leaders and congregants as they listen to one another?

Today, perhaps more so than at any time in the recent past, congregations must find ways to make God-centered decisions in order to know how to proceed; what to do and how to be.  

What has been your experience leading a group through a difficult decision making process? Did you find it contentious? Did you feel a sense of the Holy Spirit's presence in the process? How does a group go through such a process without creating higher levels of tension, stress and conflict?

Leading a group through a decision making process, especially for a decision with significant consequences, and doing so with a conscious sense of God’s presence is possible. For most of us, leading such a process requires two things: solid preparation and practice. Samaritan’s Spring Congregational Leadership seminar focuses on these two requirements.

Practical Application

Part one focuses on the preparation phase of God-centered decision making. Through role modeling and using case studies, participants will explore what God-centered decision making is and what it takes to prepare for it.

In Part two, participants will be taken through a decision-making scenario so they can see and experience the process.
